Babies: 9 - 12 Months

DH lowered her crib too far

We lowered the crib yesterday since she has started crawling, and is now trying to pull up. But he lowered it to the very lowest setting and it's practically on the floor. Not that I don't appreciate him doing all of this, but he said it was such a hassle (we have an expensive crib that you practically have to take apart), that he just wanted to go ahead so he didn't have to lower it again in a few months.

I'm very tall, but I can't freaking bend over that far to pick up and lay down a sleeping baby that can't even pull herself into a sitting position yet. We don't have a drop down front. He's mad because I told him he needs to move it to the middle position today. But she's upset because she can't reach the buttons on her mobile. So she woke up screaming this morning instead of playing quietly until I went in to get her. I hate when things change...it's always an adjustment.

Re: DH lowered her crib too far

  • We just lowered DD's crib yesterday!

I told DH to put it on the lowest setting, but then when he showed me how low it was, I said no way!!  I think that almost-to-the-floor setting is for once the crib is converted to a toddler bed.

I'd really ask your DH to move it!!  Or, if you have to, figure out how to move it yourself!

  • That sucks.  Definitely move it back up to the middle position.  I just moved DD's crib to the middle position today and it was a PITA!  I don't know how I'm going to reach the lowest level when we move it.  Gianna isn't crawling yet, but she's getting close so I wanted to be proactive and move it now.

Can you get a crib play thing, like the ocean wonders aquarium?  I just put it in for Gianna.  She'll sit and play with it but hasn't figured out that she can play with it when she wakes up.

  • That sucks! DH did the same thing but before putting the screws in, showed it to me so we decided to put in on the medium setting.
  • I'd leave it... we moved ours down to the middle then had to move it to the bottom less than a week later because she was standing in it! less than a stinking week!

That's a good idea. Maybe I can get her one after work. Thanks!

Yep! Same thing here. Ours is all the way down. I hate it because the crib skirt is too long now lol :o)

  • I am afraid to lower it at all and still be able to reach her. I guess we'll be finding out soon.

  • Honestly, I'd deal with it. DH dropped B's crib last week because he could pull himself into a sit; he dropped it to the middle setting. Two days (DAYS!) later B could pull himself into a stand in the crib, thus forcing DH to take the crib apart again and drop it to the lowest setting. We both agree that he should have just done it whole-hog the first time and saved himself the hassle.

I'm 5'1 so I have a hell of a time getting DS in and out now, so I totally understand that discomfort though.
