Tummy time question

How much tummy time do you give your baby?  My son is 2 months old. he is starting to get better at it, but just wanted to gauge how much other moms give. TIA!

Re: Tummy time question

  • I typically do tummy time until DD gets frustrated with it, which is about 5 or 10 minutes at a time. Usually I"ll do tummy time mid-morning, and then again in the afternoon or evening.

And I started tummy time from week one. But LO was at station 0 for almost a month, so she came out with REALLY strong neck muscles. Also tummy time on an exercise ball with you holding their hips is really good for strengthening, and helping release gas.

  • Thanks everyone!
  • LO will only do it for about 5 minutes at a time (if that)...she hates tummy time. Our pedi said she should be doing about an hour a day...not all at once of course.

This is totally my sweet girl!  Our pedi said 40 minutes a day and we struggle with her.  Sad

  • Parker is beginning to tolerate it more and more- we started around 2 weeks 5-10 minutes at a time- I think now we do about 10-15.

  • Well he usually on his tummy for about 3 seconds before he freaks out.  I try and keep him there for 2-3 minutes.
  • Our pediatrician told us to start at week one with the two minutes, twice a day.

  • Give as much Tummy Time as your LO tolerates, in small spurts working up to an hour per day.  Pathways Awareness has developed some tips on their website to make it easier on parents (and babies!): https://bit.ly/8IhuuF, along with a unique developmental calendar with activities to foster your LO?s growth: https://bit.ly/5lGkTm.
