Max does not clap. And that was the only question I had to answer "no" to at his appt today.

Mine does, but SIL worked with him on it for weeks before he finally got it. Now he claps when he wants your attention. I don't think I'd worry about it, though! Everybody moves at their own pace!

DS started clapping right at 9m, but he hasn't really started talking yet (other than babbling)

This made me LOL!

DD didn't clap til about 11mo. She was afraid of the noise for a while, now she claps when she's mad! I keep telling her that the song says "if you're HAPPY and you know it" but she only claps when she's mad!

Closed handed clapping usually begins at 9 month and open handed clapping follows.

Grant started closed handed clapping around 7 months and open handed at 9 months.

It's like everything else .. waiving hi or bye, blowing kisses, etc - it's all about the personality of the child and what signs they are exposed to.

Yes. It's adorable. They clap all the time at school so I'm sure that has helped.

Charlize has been clapping since she was about 7 months. However, most things like crawling or whatnot she could care less about. She just likes to sit and clap at people. LOL
