diaper champ vs. diaper genie?

Does anyone have an opinion on either of these?  I'm curious what baby bargains says, but I don't have a copy.  I'm trying to figure out which one to put on my registry.

The DC uses normal trash bags, so you don't have to buy refills, but a few online reviews I read said they don't hold as much, and you do still have to buy trash bags, so it doesn't seem to me like there's a huge deal of difference.

The online reviews were quite mixed.

Re: diaper champ vs. diaper genie?

  • We have the diaper champ because it took regular bags.  But honestly with my son, we never used it.  We just threw the diapers away in our regular garbage.  It was a waste for us.

  • This is our first baby, so we haven't used ours yet.  But, I heard from all the mom's I know that the diaper genie elite is AMAZING!  So, that's what we got.  Honestly, the refills are not expensive and they each hold 180 diapers.  So, the refill/trashbag argument didn't persuade me.

  • We had the Diaper champ and loved it. 2 of our friends had the genie & pitched it to get the champ. Our champ lasted about 15 mo. before it started to really be stinky and we bought the safety 1st pail (much cheaper) and so far I'm finding it completely comparable to the diaper genie. Now that DD is older her poop diapers are just gross/stinky so I wrap them in the scented bags. Her room hardly ever smells.

  • We also chose the diaper champ because it used regular bags, and it worked fine for us.  We only ever used it for wet diapers and always brought poopy diapers straight downstairs or outside, and it only smelled when we opened it to change the bag.

  • There was a post a couple of months ago about this. I went with many of the posts and went with a little flip garbage can in the nursery with scented garbage bags. It seemed like a lot of people were doing this. We will see! I would also ask this question on the 0-3 month board.
  • We had the diaper champ with DD, and LOVED it! We will be using another diaper champ with this LO.

  • Diaper champ!  It uses regular bags, which is a huge advantage.  You'll want to take out the bags pretty often anyway so they don't stink up the place.

  • We have the diaper champ and it's worked great.  We use grocery bags, so no cost at all for bags.
  • Going along with most of the PP, I like Diaper Champ better.

Another reason why I like it better, is because the genie twists them up like little sausages... i feel it wastes the bags! The champ holds the smell out just as well as the genie. But you can shop around for cheaper garbage bags rather than cheaper diaper genie bags.

  • We've had both and prefer the Champ hands down. It is easier to use. One hand operation is always a big plus. We just used ours with grocery bags and it was fine. I didn't think we had to empty it any more often than we emptied the Genie.
