For the past few years, my company has participated in St. Baldrick's on St. Patrick's Day, and we have raised a pretty substantial amount of money. Now, there are several other large companies in our community who are participating as well. I think it's great because the idea of people shaving their heads has gained a lot of media attention, which only means more money is raised. Just thought I'd share. Maybe someone here may be inspired to get their company involved!
Re: Would you shave your head to raise money for childhood cancer research?
What a great cause.
To answer your question - I don't think I could shave my head, but this is something I would get involved with through volunteering. I think the only time I would consider shaving my head is if (god forbid) one of my children had cancer. I could see myself shaving my head in support of one of them...especially DD.
I used to work for a cancer organization and it's so cool and inspiring to see what people do in support of others.
Love the new sig of C. He's getting so big.
If I knew I could get a really good wig that isn't going to blow off my head in a wind storm - absolutely!!
The hair will grow back so why not?
I probably wouldn't shave my head, but I would give triple what I would usually donate.
I agree Kersbear. The idea of anyone, especially a child, suffering from cancer makes me sick to my stomach. I have not shaved my head, but I have donated to those who are/have.
There have been several women, though, who have shaved their heads. In addition, you have the option of cutting the 10 inches to donate to locks of love.
I follow quite a few carepages of children with cancer. One Mom in particular is a HUGE advocate for childhood cancer. She lost her son 2 years ago at 4yo, and since has traveled to Washington DC to try to get the word out. She shaved her head not too long ago, and I believe she will again. Anyone interested in reading her stories can visit her page at www.carepages.com/JuliansWorld.
But to answer your question, if my child had cancer, you'd better believe I would shave my head.
A friend of mine just did this. Great cause. He keeps his hair pretty short anyway, so I teased him shaving wasn't that big of a deal!! But I don't think I could shave my head. If a good wig was involved, maybe. My head is probably really bumpy and funny looking for a shave job!
A local organization I belong to is going to do this. My husband is going to have is head shaved and I'm going to volunteer at the event. I know some people who have done this for the past few years (including 1 woman).
Liam is 5!
