s/o bathing suits...what do you wear?

Bikini or one piece?

Since Rowan I'm not sure if I have the chutzpa to wear a bikini anymore, unless I wore a sign around my neck that said: "I have two kids".  Then, people would excuse my lil' pot belly.

We booked a trip to St. John's for October and so I have all summer to get this belly down...plus Rowan's just four 1/2 months.  But, I don't know.

What is everyone else's plan?

  • Tankini, much more forgiving than a bikini or one piece.

  • It's not so much the top that is an issue for me but the bottoms. I'll wear a one piece, tankini top or a bikini top but for bottoms, I always throw on a pair of board shorts over. It offers a bit of coverage, plus it just looks cute.
  • Even though I have the body for a bikini I am much more comfortable in a tankini.
  • Last summer (when our son was about 1) I wore a bikini for the times that I was in a swimsuit.  Now that baby #2 is on the way, we'll see how my tummy looks next summer after baby is born this summer.  I say wear what you are comfortable with.  If you choose a bikini, just make sure it fits well, and if it fits well you will feel great in it!  Personally I say go for it!!  :)

And as another poster mentioned, my trouble areas aren't my tummy but my thighs so I am usually a big fan of a little wrap to go around my waist when I am walking around.  I feel more comfortable that way.

    Have fun!

I have a halter tankini with a low back that I love. I still feel great in it but it covers my stretch marks.

This, and my bottoms are like boy-shorts with a cute little skirt flare over the top.  Cute and flirty, but still covers my ugly thighs.

  • I bought a black one piece last year and although I thought it was the best solution, it was she worst.

I will not be buying a black swim suit again.  When out in the bright sun, black is just silly looking.

I will be going with some sort of tankini

  • I had DD last January, and by our beach trip in August I was back in bikini shape.  This baby is due in the middle of the summer, so no bikinis this year!  I'm hoping to be back into one the following summer, but I guess we'll see if it's different after two babies.  Post-pregnancy I get excited about working out and eating right, so I'm not too worried about it.  But if my belly is not flat enough, I will wear a tankini.  :-)

  • At home, I wear a one-piece tank.  I feel more modest when I might run into someone I know.

On vacation, I wear a bikini.  My body is saggy but hopefully so bad it's blinding anyone.

  • lol I haven't worn a bikini since my teens, and don't suspect that I ever will again.

I have a few tankinis that I love.

  • I think the last time I wore a bikini I was probably like 7.

I didn't have the body for a bikini before kids and I certainly don't have it after.  I'm a tankini girl with the little skirt bottom.

  • I love the bandeau and malliot one-piece suits that became really popular last year and I own three!  They are so Marilyn Manroe, ultra classy, chic and offer a lot of coverage as they come down a bit more over your thights like boyshorts/skirt.

  • Well I just got a lovely maternity tankini with swim skirt to cover my big booty. Last summer (when I was also pregnant) I wore a bikini the whole time. This year I wouldn't consider it because of the stretchies. After my last pregnancy, my abdominal muscles did not come back together (called distasis recti) so it made me have my belly stick out even though it was hard because my abs were no longer holding my guts in basically. I'm going to need it sewn back together when we are done having kids so I don't think I'll be wearing a bikini again till that happens. There, that's a lot of info about my swimwear plans. Didn't realize they were so detailed.

  • I still wore a bikini after my first son, then went to a tankini after my second son. After my third son I went to a tankini with a skirt bottom.... this year I'm working my butt off to get back to bikini shape (or close to it). Even if I do, I still wont wear a bikini with spaghetti-style straps and little triangles of fabric... I like the ones with the thicker straps and much more coverage and support. More of a sporty bikini, but we'll see....I'll probably end up in a tankini again. I've lost 12 lbs so far, but I'd like to lose 20-25.
  • I plan wearing a bikini and I would consider wearing a tankini,  but never a one piece.

  • I always wear a bikini, but that may change this summer after having the new baby. I'd consider a tankini but never a one-piece.

  • Right now I am wearing a huge one piece maternity suit. I only got it because my son is in swim lessons and we are required to wear a t-shirt as well.

This summer it will be a tankini or a one piece.

  • I have one of each.  I have the black one-piece for those times when I feel not-so-two-piecy and a two-piece for when I have been working out and feel like I can pull it off Smile  We leave for our "Activity Week" (aka "Vacation" to DH and the kids) in a couple of weeks and I have been busting my a** to wear the two-piece.  Tomorrow is day 30 of the 30 Day Shred:)
