Trying to Get Pregnant

F*n Ladybugs!

Anyone else have a zillion ladybugs in their house!? I'm becoming a little overwhelmed with this (im a neat freak)! Any ideas how to keep them out/away?

Re: F*n Ladybugs!

  • Yes!  What is causing this??  We just moved into a new house a couple of months ago and it keeps getting progressively worse.  I've heard it has to do with the direction our house faces?

DH keeps threatening to call an exterminator but I don't really want any chemicals used in/around the house with DS and the dog.  At this rate of ladybug procreation I will be losing that fight very soon.

  • My mom had these a few years ago.  They were coming in around the windows, so they sealed around them and they quit coming in.

Can you tell where they are entering? Maybe you can seal up those places

  • We always get them. I don't know why ladybugs are thought of as cute. They are horrible. Then once the season is over you find ladybug grave yards under your furniture! I don't know if there is a way to keep them out.

     Me too!

DH said that he heard/read somewhere that if you spray lemon pledge on the outside of your windows, it will repel them. I'm hoping that once spring arrive it will get better!

  • Yes! We have eleventy billion of them in our master bath. DH resealed the windows and it still didn't keep them out. Ugh!

There are, what seems like, a million dead ladybugs all over my carpets. I cant run the vacuum enough! Grr. It's really annoying!

The windows are all new, so I cannot imagine that they are coming from around them. Once spring arrive, DH plans on going around the house with a magnifying glass to make sure it's all sealed up. But I need to get through this next couple of months!

  • We have had them in our bedroom all winter. We just leave them be and sweep up the dead ones. It's a manageable amount, though.

  • we have ladybugs and stinkbugs - both are gross -

someone told me that they can flatten themselves to get into incredibly small spaces - like window seals - I don't know but it is GROSS:)

We don't have invasions of ladybugs here, but we do have these things called lovebugs. They are so annoying! They get on your car and their guts eat through your paint.

    Oy!

I have seem a couple of pseudoscorpions in our bedroom. If you look them up online, they look horrendous! But they are little tiny things!

  • Is having nasty bugs in your house a PA thing??!  LOL

All of our windows are brand new as well and I don't think there is a sealing issue, but we'll definitely be checking.  We were thinking maybe they came in through the HVAC system or something.  And I'll totally try the Lemon Pledge, really I'd try just about anything at this point.

Perhaps it is a PA thing! Do you mind me asking what part of PA you are located in?

  • NO! But I wish I did! I am very superstitious and they have brought me luck and been a source of good fortune for me for the past 5 years! Enjoy them!!! I hope they bring you luck!

  • They hibernated in your house during the winter, now that it is sping they are waking up and making their way outdoors.  Different than in the fall when they are coming in, the best way to get them out is open a window or a door during the warmest part of the day.

Pesticides are not very effective. There is a link below that talks about ways to prevent them from coming into your home and ways to remove them. However, if you garden or have fruit trees, keep in mind that they are a form of natural pest control method and are good to have around. If you let them, they will leave on their own quickly and most likely without any harm to you. Although they seriously freak me out. My husband does a lot of organic gardening for his resturant and is a bit a of expert on their advantages.  HTH.

Ugh! Lovebugs are so annoying!! You try to swat them away and they just kind of float around. I heard that they were made by UF scientists by crossing flies with mosquitoes...figures they'd come from UF!! (FSU Alum here...)

  • I know there is another beetle that looks like a lady bug but is slightly lighter in color and I know if you try to swat them they can leave a yellow color that stains and they smell. They are called the Asian lady beetle, We usually vacuum them up and get rid of them that way. We also have ladybugs but mainly we deal with their counter part, the Asian lady beetle...
