Britax Marathon Users

How long has/was your LO in the Marathon? I know the height and weight limit are real good, but realistically, how long was your LO in it? We have one that Jackson is in now, and are wondering if we'll need to get another one for the baby once he/she is out of the infant carrier or if they can use Jacksons? Thanks!

Re: Britax Marathon Users

  • My DS is still in his and has about 4 or 5 inches until he grows out of it.  I am assuming that he will grow less than 5 inches in a year.  We are debating TTC right now and if the new LO needs the Marathon before DS grows out it, we will probably get a new seat forward face only.  I am think something that can also be used as a booster.  This: https://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=15873655&RN=7023 or https://www.buybuybaby.com/product.asp?order_num=-1&SKU=15117761&RN=7023 or https://www.safety1st.com/usa/eng/Products/Travel/Car-Seats/Booster-Car-Seats/Details/1801-22535CDE-Apex-65-Booster-Car-Seat

The Nat'l Highway Safety Administration says:

Once children outgrow their forward-facing seats (usually around age 4 and 40 pounds),they should ride in booster seats, in the back seat, until the vehicle seat belts fit properly. Seat belts fit properly when the lap belt lays across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt fits across the chest (usually at age 8 or when they are 4?9? tall).

So it goes more by weight than height for when to transfer them to a booster seat? Good to know!

    Thank you!!

  • I felt my kids were growing out of them by ~3yrs old.  My first DD went into a Britax Regent.  My DD#2 went into a Sunshine Radian XSLT (I got a SR for DD#1 too so I could fit 3 carseats across the 2nd row).  The Regent is in DH's car now--that is a HUGE carseat--LOL!  They'll be in boosters full-time more around 6yrs old because Radians go up to 80lbs & 53".

  • My oldest was in it until she was about 5 1/2.  She could still use (she's 7 now)  it if we could fit it and 2 other car seats across the back of my car.  My middle DD was in it until she was about 5.
  • Emily is 3 1/2 years old an still in her Marathon perfectly!  She's on the petite side at only 31lbs and 39" tall though.   :)

We won't move her to a booster before she's reached 65lbs (as that is the weight limit on the Marathon) unless she becomes uncomfortable or too tall for the Marathon.

  • DS was 39 inches and 37 pounds at his well check at 3 in January.  He is in the 85+%tile in both weight and height.  He is still in the Marathon with plenty of room left.  I plan on keeping him in as long as it is safe to do so.  He is on the next to highest holes on the back....don't know what those things are called.
