where to get acidopholus?

The pediatrician put DS on antibiotics and a nebulizer for (likely) bronchitis and he recommended we give him some acidopholus along with the antibiotics, sprinkled in his food. Do you know where I can get this? CVS said they didn't have it.

Re: where to get acidopholus?

  • Whole Foods had a ridiculous variety in the vitamin/supplement aisle when I got some for myself, but I'm not sure if that's the same stuff you'd give to a baby.

  • Try a more specialized pharmacy like Prosperity Pharmacy in Fairfax or a mom-and-pop type of place. They carry more harder to find items.

  • You can get it almost anywhere.  Walgreen's carries it.
  • You can find them in the digestive aids aisle at just about any drugstore.  Our ped recommended Culturelle by name.   (Acidolpholus is short for lactobaccilicus acidolpholus.  Culturelle lists its active ingredient as lactobaccilicus.)
  • You can get it at health food stores like Healthway.
  • Target and GNC sell a dairy-free version of Culturelle for Kids.  Dairy free is good because the antibiotics can cause a lactose intolerance because it can kill off the stuff that helps digest milk, which is why your doc is recommending it.
