3rd Trimester

xp: ? for those who have experienced L&D trips and PTL

I have been having BH since 14 weeks.  No biggie.

At 29 weeks I went to L&D for painful contrax 5 min apart.  Was there for 5 hrs and sent home after 2 rounds of terb.

Last week I almost went to L&D again for painful contrax but they went away after about 3 hours.

Last night I had timeable, painful contrax for at least 6 hours, but I didn't start timing them until the last 2 hours they were around.  All of a sudden they went away.

Does this pattern of pre-term contrax mean anything or are they flukes?  I know you aren't docs, but thought you might have some insight for me since the OB office isn't open.

  • Twins, right?  I have been having the EXACT same issues.  It took 5 rounds of terb to finally only have 1 contraction every 20 mins.  That was last Tues.  I have painful contrax EVERY day/mostly all night - I was told that it was just due to the twins/weight/pressure, etc and it is very normal.  Dilated?   I was hoping to get these babies out sooner, but csection was just scheduled for 3/18.  I haven't dilated/effaced at all and am not expecting to (my last US showed my cervix 5cm long/closed and I never dilated with DD).

The nurses at L&D said that if I was worried about contrax or if they got worse/closer together (they want 6 in one hour) to come back.  GL!

Yep, twins.  At my OB appt last Thurs the cervix was still closed, but getting softer.

  • When I went in at 31 weeks they keptme overnight but never really got them to stop. It was concerning but they just said I have and "irritable uterus." I still have tons of BH daily, but nothing thats making me dilate, which would be the main concern. well.. for you. I'd love if they were making me dilate at this point lol.
  • I went through this quite a bit with ds.  I went to L&D the first time at 28wks. The contractions were not causing me to dialate.  I had them continuously, timeable, and painful pretty much from then until delivery.  They were not causing me to dialate until 34wks.  I went one other time that ended up being false labor.  Sometimes, like with me, it's just an "irritable uterus" however, sometimes it's not.  I'm sure you obviously have to be more cautious since you are having twins.  As long as they keep an eye on it and they are not causing you to dialate, it may just be something you deal with until birth.
