Any feedback on experiences would be great - my dr (who I love) is affiliated with the hospital - we took a tour of L&D just recently and I HATED it - I was definitely not expecting anything like a birthing center, but thought it would be more patient centered than it seemed to be - main issues were that the baby would HAVE to remain in the nursery for about 3 hours after birth (as opposed to being monitired in the room with me) and there were visiting hour restrictions for my husband unless we managed to get and pay for a private room (no guarantees even if we asked for one...) - is it as rigid as it seems?  Worth considering other options???  I very well may be overreacting, but would love to hear from people who had experiences there...

    No experience in their L&D---but many unpleasant & never going there again---not me personally but family.  Lets just say there were quite a few law suits.  I live about 10 minutes away from LIJ but chose to have my DD at Winthrop University Hospital---the best!!!!

    My friends and cousins have had lots of babies there and while it's not the most modern facility, and certainly not as nice looking as north shore (which was just renovated), they also didn't have any problems.  Just remember that with LIJ, you also get Schneiders children's hospital (one of the best), and to be honest I'd rather forego a few comforts to have the best children's hospital available to me should there be any problems.  Also, I don't know about everyone else, but I plan on sleeping as much as I can those last few nights before I go home so I'll happily kick my husband out at 8pm!

    I was there in 2008 when my son was born and I was pretty happy with everything.  They were doing renovations when I was there so the parking lot was a zoo and quite a pain for my visitors.  But the actual L&D floor was great.  The rooms were a bit small but you're not moving in.  And I remember my husband staying their past 8pm.  All in all we were happy and we'll be going there for the birth of our 2nd child in October.  Good luck!
