There I got it out!
?
We found this absolutely amazingly great house and currently live in it, because its the best house on the planet. However, this amazingly great house is located RIGHT ON THE BORDER between a great school district and a really crappy lamebrain one. Well.... we belong to the lamebrain school.
GAHHHH! This angers me to no end. Sure we are years away from this, but we absolutely will not be moving anytime soon, and private schools are absurdly expensive (i know i work at the BEST one in the city!)?
ok you may be asking... well why not send her to the one you are currently employed by... turns out my job will no longer be available after this school year. I'm trying really hard to take ANY job they are offering. No matter the pay. because they offer free tuition to full-time employees. I'd seriously do anything, because it would solve this school problem.
?
I just looked up the elementary school Kirsten would be attending if we have to send her to our local public and EVERY single review is awful. I called some local friends and they all basically laughed at me, as they dropped their kids off at the local private awesome school.
grumble grumble grumble
We cannot afford to do private on our own, and I doubt we would qualify for any financial aid.
Its just sad.... as a teacher and a product of public school I really had high hopes that no matter where we were located it would be fine. But living in a city, its really a gamble.
I'm just a tad frustrated.... I think its mostly me being bitter about losing my job at the awesome school.
?
I'm sure it'll all work out fine when its time to actually send her.
Anyone else already checking out schools??
Re: Elementary schools - venty vent vent
I heart you E! Kirsten is so lucky to have you as her Momma!
I hope you keep your job and Kirsten gets to go to your school!
I'm going to look into sending her to the better public school down the road. its never to early to ask these questions right???
thanks so much for all the advice! and i am oh so happy i am not the only one!!!!?
My DSD is in an awful high school district. She lives in a very rural area that has great elementary and middle schools but sends the students to a city near by for high school. The school is awful in terms of violence, drugs, and education outcomes. We keep hoping that the district will be redrawn or they will build a new school in the next 7 years.
I think it is completely normal to be looking at schools...and I think your situation just sucks in terms of the public schools and your job. I agree with PP's that you should talk to the other school and see what you can do. There has to be some other options. Good luck!
I adore our house and love our neighbors, location, etc. but we're in an awful school district. We'll be selling before DS starts school. There's just no way I'll send him to the elementary school in our district, and I really want my kids to go to a public school with other neighborhood kids.
As much as I love our house, I think it's worth the sacrifice for us to move and be in a better district.

As a pp said, look into getting a zone variance (when the time comes).
Also, when I was entering 1st grade my parents moved to the town where I grew up. One of the main reasons they bought the house they did was because it was zoned for one of the best high schools in the state. Well, after 6th grade they rezoned us, to one of the not-so-good schools. So I ended up in private school despite their best efforts. My point is, maybe you'll be redistricted to the good school, you never know!
