I'm a little confused as to what really is the case. I was told by quite a few people that if you try for a vaginal delivery and end up needing an emergency c-section that only the patient and hospital staff are allowed in the OR (meaning DH wouldn't be allowed to be there). But 4-5 people have told me that thats not the case, if you need an emergency c-section, DH can be there. One of the reasons I have a mini-phobia of the idea of getting a c-section is because I want to try delivering vaginally, but don't want to be alone in the OR if I end up needing an emergency c-section. I plan on asking my doc at my next appointment on Thursday but thought I'd ask here until then. TIA!

Re: C-Section question
This. I've heard that if you wind up needing general anesthesia for whatever reason, then no one is allowed in the OR with you. Otherwise, they are.

I think maybe it's confusion about the difference between "emergency" and "unplanned." For example, if you've just been laboring for a long time, things aren't working out, and you and your doctor decide to move to a c-section, that would just be considered unplanned and generally your husband would be allowed in. But if it's a true emergency, where the baby is in distress or something and you need to be knocked out (say you haven't gotten an epidural yet and there's not enough time) he might not be allowed.
I'm sure it varies by hospital, but that's how it was explained to us in our birthing class.
