Moms of two -when did you put the carseat in...

for DC2?  I'm thinking now would be good so that DS can kind of get used to someone in his space.  When did you put the car seat in for the baby to be?

DH did it while I was in the hospital.

  • 2 weeks before.  DS was late.  Mostly because it was a seat that my DH had never installed before and I wanted to make sure it fit.  Turned out we had to move them around a bit before we got the right placement.
  • At 33 or 34 weeks, I think we installed the base at least.  But I was induced early with DD#1 and thought I might be with DD#2 due to IUGR concerns.  As it was, she was almost 4 weeks early so she came maybe two weeks after we put it in.
  • With all three of our kids, MH installed the base while I was in the hospital.

  • Probably 30 weeks or so . . . can't remember. Can someone tell me why people wait until they are in the hospital? Is there a reason to wait, or are people just busy? I have always wondered that.

we are installing when Im in the hospital. DH is familiar with the seat (DD's Snugride), so I don't see a reason to have DD moved over before it's required. I didn't deliver DD until 41w, so I don't have a history of preterm labor. It will take DH 15 min. I did wash it @ about 32w.

edit: we've been telling DD she'll move, so it won't be a suprise.

  • We are switching DD to a booster and moving her to the back of the van to make room for baby.  I'd like to wait until the roads are a little better before putting her in a regular seatbelt vs. a 5 pt harness.  I DO wish DH would install the booster in the back so she can at least practice in the driveway.
  • DH did it while I was in the hospital.  He refused to put it in early.

  • I was just thinking that DS could get used to one more change in his life.  We already moved him over because I was having a hard time getting him strapped tightly in his seat with my big pregnant belly in the way.  I'm just trying to prepare him for yet another intusion.  First it was switching rooms, then the big boy bed, all the baby stuff getting set up that he couldn't touch, etc.  Poor kid!  I think we'll go ahead and do it tomorrow.  I'm thinking I won't last too much longer.

Same reason why I don't make dinner at 8am.  It's just not time yet.

  • I figure DH will do it while I'm in the hospital. I already know DD's seat in my car will have to move behind the driver's side. In our SUV, I think she'll move from the middle to behind the driver's side again.

We won't do it any sooner in my car, because that will make it so we can only fit 2 adults plus the kids in the back. We carpool places with my sister quite a bit, and I'd rather take the car than the SUV on long trips. I suppose we could put it in earlier in the SUV, but it doesn't seem all that necessary. DD doesn't really care where she is in the car.

Well, I delivered three weeks early, so my DH pulled it out of the attic, washed it and installed it while I was in the hospital. Not the best plan :)

  • Someone asked why 10 weeks early. I can only answer for me, but my water broke at 34w with DC #1, so I was not taking chances with #2.  Plus, we wanted to get our car seat installation inspected but it was hard to get an appointment since we both worked full time and they had limited hours and locations for inspections. So we had to fit that in between when we installed it and when the baby was born.
  • About a week before each child was born.
