nursery furniture recommendations needed

So the idea of furnishing and decorating a nursery is a bit overwhelming to me.  Some folks are just natural decorators but it intimidates me. (Much like art class in elementary school.) So the easiest solution is a good quality nursery set (with crib.) Any suggestions on good brands or where to buy? Or have you gotten a set that you have loved?  I've been doing internet research...and all I have is a headache.

  • I looove Ethan's furniture!   It's pricey though-  LINK

We have the April Collection, and it converts to a full bed, not a twin.  It is also 'Adult sized' not children, so it will grow with him through the years.  (It doesnt look to big though, and that was important)  Also I loved the crib and how solid it is, also it is very 'boy' nice solid lines, not whimsy.  :0)

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.

  • I started a baby shopping blog and has some stuff about cribs and things if that helps:)
  • We purchased our set by Stanley Young America.  It is beautiful and well worth the money.
  • We bought Capretti, much like the PP its not baby like, it will grown  with him as he gets older (full bed conversion).
  • We ordered a Munire.

    It hasn't come yet, but it wasn't that expensive...around $650 I believe.  It's convertible.

It will get here in early May.

  • I'd go looking at baby stores local to you to find what you like. Most of them have very helpful staff who will tell you everything you need to know. Then order online if you want.

If you're getting a glider seriously consider one that reclines. I never knew they had that option and it would have been so much nicer for those middle of the night feedings.

  • Shopping for baby gear is sooo overwhelming!!!!

It helped me to pick up a copy of Baby Bargains so that I had something a little more concrete to go on.  The book gives lots of good recommendations on all baby gear from several different perspectives (ie safely, price, durability, etc)

I ended up choosing the Gulliver Crib from Ikea - but then again a smaller streamlined crib was what we needed seeing that we'll need two and the nursery is small.  GL!

I ended up with the Olivia collection from JcPenney but the crib shown above (Babi Italia in Expresso or maybe the one in pic is Cherry) with the matching dresser changing combo was probably my first choice. My GF bought it for her kid and it is fantastic.
  • If you're really feeling overwhelmed go get Baby Bargains. A lot of the girls on here swear by it, and I found it so helpful. It gets really in depth into each brand, and how brands that have had major recalls have changed their names and are producing the exact same cribs under a different name.
