2nd Trimester

Dress for a wedding...would you get mat. or reg?

I'm stumped...I've got a wedding on March 27th (so I'll be 7 mths) and I really want to look good - not like a frumpy pg lady. I honestly don't know if I'll actually "pop" by that time or not and I can't decide if I should look for a reg. dress or go get a mat. one (I want to show off my curves and don't want to hide under a super flowy dress).

Any suggestions of styles that you think might work?

  • I would get a mat. pencil skirt and a nice top to go with.   I LOVE pencil skirts:)

  • If you go with an empire waist dress...it's going to look cute no matter where the bump is at.  I wore them all the time PP and I'm still wearing them even though I def have a bump
  • I find a lot of maternity dresses to be a bit frumpy...just go to some of your favorite stores and look for dresses with empire waists or shifts.

I had to dress up last pregnancy and found some great dresses at Anthropologie that looked really cute and fit well without making me look frumpy.

I've never really liked those on myself (empire waist), but maybe because it made my torso look funny (since its longer than most dresses are made for)? Maybe I'll have to give them another shot and see how they look with the extra bumpage :)

Definitely empire waist.  I just bought cute leggings and an empire summer dress from Old Navy to go over it (not maternity).  Looks good with my small bump and there's a lot of room to grow into it.

  • I'd wait until the week before to decide. Who knows how much your body may change in the next two weeks.

Check out Pea in a Pod and Nordstrom, they have gorgeous maternity dresses that don't look frumpy.

  • At 7 months, I would get a maternity dress. I'm wearing one from asos to a wedding in early April. (It's a UK company but shipping is only $6 and you can switch the prices to US$ on the upper right of the site).

I am the same way.  They looked awful on me pre-pregnancy.  I am too long in the middle for them.

Now?  They look good, and I have been buying them in the non-maternity section so I can wear the PP when I am still fighting the baby weight.
