Would you (or do you) drive pretty far out of your way to take your LO to daycare? I'm interviewing an in-home place that I really like, and the price is right, but it's 15 miles from my house (in the opposite direction from my office). So I'd have to drive 15 miles to day care, then it would be about 25 miles to my office. WDYT?

Re: Day care inconvenient location?
Nope. Not a chance.
That extra 30 miles every day is going to wear on you, really quickly.
I would keep looking. You have lots of time still.
You'll find that that extra driving time eats into your quality time, and who needs that. BUT, if you can't find anything else you like, then by all means it's worth it. There is nothing worse than leaving your child with someone you don't feel comfortable with, and driving a few extra miles is worth that peace of mind.
thanks to jennied
I did this for 2+ years. It got old fast but it worked for us (til DD was ~1... then it's too long a story to type out here).
Our house , home, sitter looked like this (geographically):
Home..............work.....................................sitter
If you *love* her and can't find anything even close to comparable, tehn you can do it but I'd say you shoudl do it only until the baby is 6 mos/ 1 y.o. Then it's time to look again. It's rough but definitely do-able.
We had this dilemma...and wound up going w/somewhere between work and home and close to our pedi.
I loved the place that was out of the way, but I have thought so many times about all of the extra hours on the road...and am so glad we found somewhere closer, esp. when I have to take off work to get to pedi appts.
I do this with DS every day. It actually was about 5 mins from work and then our office moved and not it is about 15 minutes the opposite direction from home. But I love love love the in home DCP watching my son. I feel more comfortable with her than anyone. Then again she was my DCP when I was a kid.
I think you should find someone you are comfortable with.
That's so awesome that you use the DCP who cared for you!
