2nd Trimester

Question for 2nd time mom's & ladies expecting boys...

Did you/will you circumsize (maybe spelled wrong, I apologize if it is) your little boy? If so, how long after birth did you/will you have it done?

I fully plan to circumcize my son as soon as possible after birth. The hospital I'm laboring in does not do it there so I have to take him to a pediatrician. A girl I knew didn't get it done for her son solely based on the fact that her mid wife told her that she wasn't a fan of it....which leads me to this...If you didn't or aren't going to, why not? Just wondering...

Re: Question for 2nd time mom's & ladies expecting boys...

  • Well not sure I'm having a boy but if I do then I will. We did it with my son, he didn't make a peep, it healed in about 2 days and he showed no signs of discomfort or pain when we changed or washed him. This is a huge hot topic, but we chose to do it and will again.

  • We had our son circumsized at the hospital. My Ob did it when he was 1.5 days old. He had stopped crying by the time the nurse brought him back to us and never seemed bothered by it when his diaper was changed.

We chose to have it done for several reasons. All of the men in our families are circumsized as well as my DH. It really is easier to clean. I am a nurse and as an older adult there are some issues being uncircumsized. I have seen plenty of infections among such patients.

  • G was circumsized the day following his birth. Of course, there is the initial special gauze and ointment treatment. But be sure to educate yourself on the proper diaper-to-diaper cleaning because you do have to pull back a slight bit every diaper change to make sure it doesn't re-attach.

G's circ went just fine. His recovery went just fine. The circ also did not impact his hunger or ability to nurse. However, I didn't know about pulling the skin back a little each diaper change (after the initial surgery is healed), and my MIL, thankfully, taught me how to do it. If you look on the 0-6 board, baby boys will sometimes have to be re-circ'd b/c the pullback was not done properly.

  • We chose to get our DS circumcised. His pediatrician did it in the hospital when he was 3 days old. If this LO is a boy, we will get him circumcised as well.
  • We are going to do it. DH was and from what I have read it just seems like a good idea. I am going to see if the hospital does it. If so I want it done before we leave.

  • I don't think we will. DH does not want to, since he's not and he sees it as unnecessary surgery and risk of infection when the baby is so young. I told him that other moms have told me the boys would get teased in the locker room, but he said that doesn't really happen. I kind of wanted to get LO circumcised, but I'll honor DH's wishes on this one.
  • We will. I'm not sure if my hospital does it (I think they will right after birth) but if they don't, then we'll have it done as soon as possible.

  • We are planning to do so at the hospital after he is born.

  • Yes we circumsized our son. It was done in the hospital the day after he was born.

  • I will do it just because I believe it's something that should be done. I'll have it done when the hospital recommends having it done - probably ASAP after birth.
  • I left the decision up to Daddy. I really have no preference either way and it's not really my department. He decided to go ahead with the circ, and he will have it done before leaving the hospital (which is customary).

  • My son is circumsized. It was done at the hospital within 48 hours of birth. I never even thought of NOT doing it.

  • we did not. We did not think it was necessary given it's not done commonly where DH is from.

  • If we have a boy, we will have it done. DH is cut and we think it is important for LO and Daddy to look the same down there.

My OBGYN does it at the hospital the day after birth.

  • we are not doing it.
  • Yes, we will circumcise our son.
