I've been trying to get healthier and am ready to try something besides jogging and the elliptical. I remember a few months ago it seemed like there were a lot of posts about 30 Day Shred but of course I didn't read any of them! If you don't mind, I have a few questions.
Did you get good results results? What kind of weights did you use? Do you have to do it every day? Would you recommend it?
And bonus -- I'm not fit, would I get in over my head with this work out? TIA!!
Re: If you've done 30 Day Shred (NPR)
I loved it and loved it only took minutes of my day. It was hard at first but once I did it for a week straight it was much easier. I will say that I did not lose any weight but I was able to fit into jeans I hadn't worn since having DS1 and it had been 3 years since I fit in those!
I am going to start it again as soon as I get the okay from my OB at my 6wk post partum check up!

I wasn't fit at all when I started it, but I also didn't do it every day like she wants you to. IMO, that's a little crazy (well, I'm sure she knows more than I do, but it was too much for me).
I seriously can't wait until I can do it again. It worked so well for me to get rid of some weight that I hadn't been able to shed since my wedding. It wasn't huge amounts, like maybe 5-10 pounds, but I didn't have that much I really wanted to lose, anyway.
I used jars of pasta sauce and cans of soup for hand weights. Don't use much. It will kill you. There were some sets I didn't use any weights at all because I thought my arms were going to give out.
She'll kick your behind, but in a good way, IMO.
ETA: I never made it to level 3. And I didn't do level 2 much, either. I stopped doing it for awhile and then just went back to level one, and I still saw results.
I probably only did it 2-3 times per week.

I have only done it a few times, but when I have I've loved it. It is tough in the beginning, but I thought it was kind of fun.
Here is one woman's very hilarious blog account of doing the 30 day shred. She gives an update every day. I think I lost weight reading this just because I laughed so hard!

It was hard, but I loved it. I was working out regularly with no real results when I started, but not working out like this. She does 3 sets of 6 mins (3 mins. strength 2 mins. cardio 1 min. abs, repeat three times). It was good because it was different every time. I didn't get bored either.
Level 1 was hard. I started around the holidays and it took me a few weeks to complete my 10 days because I did not do them all in a row. Then I went to Level 2 - which I personally found the hardest of all 3. I did it in 2 weeks (5 days in a row weekends off then the next week). I saw a few pounds down, but really noticed the inches - I lost 2 in my waist before the end of Level 2. Then Level 3 was really where I saw results. By the end of it I lost 10 pounds that had been "stuck". It probably took me almost 2 months because of my slow start. I used 5 lb weights. I am considering doing it again. I bought one of her other DVDs Fat Blast Fast metoblism (or something like that). It is 40 mins and is all cardio. It is hard too. She doesa lot of plyometrics and jump training. And the cardio portion of 30 DS is the same type of movements. It really challenges your body.
I did it and on Day 8 (still Level 1) I shredded my back (could barely walk and had to go to the doctor to get pain meds). I wasn't in horrible shape, but not great shape either. I've tried it a few times since then and it's fine.
My recommendation based on my experience would be to ease into it if you're not in great shape, whether it be not every day (I think I took one day off in those 8 days) or doing the "cheat" moves a little longer.
I did it and had HUGE results--I lost about 13 pounds in 5 weeks. That was October--I fell off the wagon starting in Nov due to the holidays and haven't gotten back to it. I need to get back to it to lose the last 14 pounds.
For the first week, I did level 1 every other day. It was really hard for me to make it through the entire workout and I did some of the modified moves. But I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly my stamina increased. The second week, I got through the entire workout, 5 days a week, with no modification. So the next week I moved to level 2. Pretty much, every time I started a new level, it was hard for a week but manageable the second week. I used 8 pound dumbbells.
I was also really good about using spark people to count calories at the same time. That was also eye opening because I counted every bite, even a teaspoon of ranch dip if I cleaned the last bite off DD's plate. The food I was eating off my kids plates was adding up to a huge number of calories that I never really realized I was eating. Just by stopping that alone, I think I dropped a few pounds.
I got to day 13 and had to quit reading - i was laughing too hard!!
I just dont get how working out 20 minutes a day will make you lose weight. I cant grasp that concept.
But, I would so much rather take that route than the current route I am taking which is P90X. THAT kills me. Each and every day.
I have 71 days left out of 90. I highly doubt I will be alive then, so, adios my friends.
It definitely won't help you lose weight. But it will help you tone up and get into good cardiovascular shape. But diet is key.
Exercise does very little for weight. except give you a certain period of time that you can't eat.
What's that annoying saying. The best exercise is to push yourself away from your plate.
I'm doing that too but I'm more motivated to do that when I'm workin' on my fitness.
