s/o Family Guy

I truly don't understand why anyone finds this show offensive.  I think it's hilarious, and that Seth McFarlane is a genius.  I know that some of the content, in certain context, would be considered offensive...but it's a CARTOON!  Whenever I hear anyone pick on this show I just think "Man, this person needs to lighten up."

Re: s/o Family Guy

  • It's definitely a favourite show of mine, but I have to say, there've been times when I've raised an eyebrow.

  • I thought it was pretty hilarious the first couple seasons. I still watch it and find the majority of it funny, but now it just seems like they're trying really hard to be "shocking" and push the envelope to get a reaction, and it sort of falls flat for me.

I just like watching Stewie and Brian more than anything else.

  • This show is hilarious, however sometimes you have to admit they do push the envelope sometimes...I mean it is funny but just because it's animated doesn't mean that they can be ultra vulgar with no consequences right? Also because it is animated it attracts kids that honestly should not be looking at it. (ages 8-12).
I do like it, my husband and I watch it together. "Giggity Giggity" LOL
  • You can't see why it's offensive?

I love the show, don't get me wrong - but, they go over the line sometimes...(this past week with the Schindler's list reference was unneeded in my eyes and there have been others as well)...that said, I do think the show is equally offensive to all races, creeds, religions, etc...

I'm normally a whistle-blower of sorts with that sort of thing -but, I find 90% of the show hilarious!

  • Love it! It is part of our nightly TV time TBS on Mondays (it plays about 6 episodes) Then FOX every other night before our regular programs come on!

  • I love that show and don't find it as offensive because they really do make fun of everyone.  Sometimes it's a little one-sided, but generally they tend poke fun at all sides.
  • I couldn't believe all the 9-11 comments that he would put on his shows. Then I find out he was supposed to be on the plane that crashed into one of the towers. His way of dealing with it?

  • My DH and I both watch the show and it is funny.  Sometimes there will be something that they say or do that I frown at because it goes a little too far for me, but that's what they are trying to do with the show.

I didn't like recent episode when Chris dates a girl with Down Syndrome and they make a reference to Sarah Palin and her infant with Down Syndrome.

My view is that they can make fun of politicians or adults as much as they want to, but making fun of an innocent infant goes too far for me. I am the guardian for my handicapped uncle and married to a special education teacher, so those kind of things just get to me.  I know that they interviewed the actress with Down Syndrome who played the character on the show and who said she didn't find anything they did offensive.  I believe by making jokes and derogatory statements about people who are handicapped as part of pop culture, they continue to tell kids that it?s ok to treat people who are different from them poorly and call them names.  That type of treatment is something that my uncle and my husband?s students face every day.

The fact that it is a cartoon doesn't give them the green light to say or do anything they want.

Never once was Palin's son mentioned, nor her name.  Of course the reference eluded to Palin, but there was no dig of her son whatsoever.

  • I find it hilarious, and love the show.  I absolutely understand why people find things they do offensive, I just don't understand why the hell they make a huge stink about it or go on about how it should be canceled.  If you don't like it...don't watch it.  It's a prime time cartoon with a widespread reputation, it's not misrepresenting itself or presenting material in an inappropriate venue.

  • "My mother is the former Governor of Alaska."  Just enough to not mention her name directly.

Why put that in if that isn't some kind of dig at her son or his disability?

  • DH and I are huge fans of this show. I can see why some would find the show offesive but like you said, they need to lighten up. I don't agree with some things they say and do but it's too funny to turn off and its a cartoon. Love the show!!

  • My husband and I love the show.  Although I often finding myself laughing and saying, "ha.....I'm so going to hell with them now."

I actually thought this week that it is going to suck not being able to watch this at will, i.e. around children.

I was just thinking the same thing. That's what's great about it, they are defnitely equal opportunity offenders. We love it.
