I make custom invitations so of course I want to do my own shower invites. I want to kindly say "don't bring your little kids!" Here's what i have, it kind of rhymes in the first two lines...
"It?s time for the grown ups to have some fun
before the arrival of the little one!
Please respect Kayla?s wishes and
leave your precious little ones behind."
I'm going to include a smaller insert that says this and then where I'm registered.
Re: Invitation wording, no kids allowed
Before about 4 wks ago, I wouldn't have thought you would even need to say this and it would just be assumed. However, I am hosting a shower for my friend in a week and already had 3 people ask to bring their children to the shower. I hadn't planned for kids to be there, so they might be kinda bored, but I'll leave that up to the parents to entertain them.
For your invites, I would just write it on the insert where you are stating the registries.

I wouldn't count on that...my shower was supposed to be adults only...some of DH's family brought their kids and they were just running around wild with no one saying anything to them. They were BORED for sure!
That sounds really rude and bossy. I would put, in small print, at the bottom of the invitation, "Adults only". Showers are typically events for adults only anyway, but if most of your friends have children (and multiple children at that), you can venture to say that you may lose quite a few guests if kids aren't allowed. You should also consider - are you making special considerations for friends who are breastfeeding and have LO's who eat every three-four hours?
I'm from Rockford, too!
Even though its a nursery rhyme it sounds rude.
Better approach would be to have a personal conversation with the folks that have kids and share that this is an adult event. Be prepared that they may not attend.

~Today I am pregnant and I love my baby~
I agree. Please don't use that poem. Adults only should suffice.
This. The poem seems rude to me.
Personally, I don't see why a shower needs to be adult only; seems odd to exclude children to a party celebrating a new child. I probably wouldn't attend, especially if I was breastfeeding.
Children take away from the atmosphere of a traditional shower. They don't get it, they're bored, they run amok. Some of my family members brought their kids to one of my showers and it was horrible. Kids screaming, parents distracted, fingers in the cake, toddlers tearing into the presents, baby crying. Personally not my idea of a good time heavily pregnant, cranky, and in pain.
OP: I agree with everyone else "Adults Only" would suffice the poem is a bit rude.
Exactly. I don't really have a problem with babies or older children who can entertain themselves. It's really toddlers who run around like crazy and don't understand that all those gifts aren't for them. I've attended showers where I've just wanted to poke my eyes out because a 2- or 3-year-old keeps getting in the way or keeps pulling at the gifts and their mom thinks it's "cute and funny." It just makes everything take twice as long.
