2nd Trimester

Episiotomies

Does anyone know if you're more likely to have one if you've already had one?  I forgot to ask my OB yesterday and I've been wondering for a while.  *fingers crossed that I'm safe*

Re: Episiotomies

  • I think that in general they are less frequent for second and third pregnancies.  That is my experience anyway :)  I had a large one the first time and second time didn't need one and my second DD was close to 10 lbs.

  • I have been wondering the same about tearing.  I had three 2nd degree tears with Brady that were painful.  I am hoping to avoid that this time!
  • You know, I'm fine with the possibility of having a C-section, but I'm not fine with having another episiotomy.
  • This topic is just about the only thing that makes me feel ok about my c-sections Embarrassed yikes.

FWIW, I had a 2nd degree episiotomy and stitches and it wasn't bad at all. Sure, I was a little sore, but after having pushed a baby out it was hard to tell if the cut was even the source!

  • I had one with both of my kids...and some stiches, no idea how many...not something I really wanted to see or know. BUT I did have an epi, so honestly I didn't feel it at the time..nor the stiching up and really it was sore for a week or so while it healed but not a big deal at all. Still no worse for wear, not something I'm worried about this time. I'm sure I'll have some stiches this time too. I've got a thing for huge headed babies!

Funny, at the time, you don't even notice..your baby has just come out and you are all hopped up on emotion. Now, when I look back at the video, the doc looks like the the swedish chef down there putting all my parts back in place....you'll heal good as new, not to worry!
