Help! Maternity Work Clothes

I start a new job on Monday and the dress code is more business-y than my current employer.  I literally have zero maternity business clothes and am wondering what you are all wearing to work these days? Dresses? Dress pants & flowy tops? Skirts & oxford shirts?  What stores did you have good luck at?  Thanks in advance!

Re: Help! Maternity Work Clothes

  • I got a lot of my maternity clothes last summer from Destination Maternity.  I found it hard to look "professional" in maternity clothes, so I often wore a suit jacket (black or gray, from suits I had from pre-pregnancy) unbuttoned over the shirt and that made me feel a little more professional.  I had a few dresses too - I usually wore cardigans over them.

  • Thank you! I have noticed that some of the stuff does look a bit unprofessional, so the jacket idea sounds great.  Thanks again!

  • Gap.  They have lots of basics - trousers & woven tops.  No blazers...but you can find some good cardigans, etc.

  • Motherhood Maternity had some cute things.

Depending on what size you are, you can try Lane Bryant. A lot of their clothing tends to be cut larger thru the belly. I just tried on a dress there last week and thought "looks horrible on me now, would look awesome as a maternity dress".
  • I second the Gap. All my work maternity clothes were from the Gap. It was great for me since they had petite length for pants.

When I need to look professional that's my strategy, too...pants suits with a suit jacket over a maternity blouse.  I found my clothes at Motherhood Maternity, it was a couple of years ago (first baby) but at the time they had a decent selection of basic suits and solid colored maternity blouses that were easy to mix and match.

  • I swear by Motherhood's miracle pants, but it doesn't look like they make them anymore.  I loved them b/c there was no panel in front, just on the sides and you could open it up as your belly grew.  I loved not having a panel b/c my shirts never looked "short" (i.e. you couldn't see the panel).  I wore those pants and jersey knit shirts every day.  I had a couple sweaters and jackets I could throw over a shirt, too.

  • I shopped quite a bit at Gap as well.  I had 2 very professional looking skirts that I found there.  Paired with a nice blouse or sweater they worked well.  I also had some flowy black maternity pants (from Kohls of all places) that got a ton of wear.

  • Oldnavy.com.....cheap, cute, constant deals.
  • I got a lot of my clothing at Target when I was pregnant with DD.  I mostly made my non-maternity clothes work till it was warm enough to wear dresses, but I had a few pairs of maternity pants I wore with flowy tops and a cardigan.  I had a bunch of dresses I wore with a cardigan and flats.
