Carter may be here past my due date :(

The whole time we've been here, almost 8 weeks, people have commented about when they think we'll be able to take Carter home. 39 weeks, 38 weeks, definitely early, no later than my due date. Then today I was talking with the charge nurse and she said that she can see him being here past my due date. I'm going to lose it. This cold/congestion that he's had for two and a half weeks has really slowed things down. We're now able to breast or bottle feed him every time he's awake and showing cues, he's on vapotherm (high humidiy cannula) at 24% and 2 liters. I just can't believe it could be another 3.5 weeks or more. I've been hoping for just another week or two

I'm sorry you got bad news. I know how frustrated you must feel. Even just a few extra days past your expectations can feel awful. Just keep in mind that it's all up to him and he might surprise everyone. ::hugs:: Also, that was just one nurse's opinion. Try not to think too much about it and just take each day at a time right now. I hope things get better quickly!

That sounds almost exactly how our situation was with our preemie. She was congested and couldn't breath well because of it, and therefore couldn't eat well. We tried Afrin, washing her bedding at home, and everything we could think of - a head box, oxygen tent, etc. It was so frustrating. We were there past her due date four days. It was extremely difficult for me to handle being there so long, especially when I was watching smaller babies go home all around me.

I hope you can bring your baby home sooner, but maybe if you can set your sights for after the due date then it will be easier for you to handle. Just expect it to be later and the ride will be so much easier to bare!

I hope you are fortunate and can go home sooner.

i still remember the exact moment i knew for sure that DS woudn't be home by christmas. i swear, the nurse could probably hear my heart breaking.

((hugs)) I'm sorry! i know it's hard waiting to taking them home and even harder when they don't meet what was expected. I hope Carter gets to come home soon.

I hear you

we were always told 2 weeks plus or minus her due date... well two weeks after her due date was yesterday and they are saying 2-3 more weeks, she's on 2 liters of vapo as well

I just get more frustrated everyday.

I know it sux being told things like that and then it being told it may be past due date because thats what happened w/ me. Except mine is having probs eating .. I hope he gets better ASAP & goes home w/ mommy & daddy!!!

I understand :c( We are closing in on our due date too and I am not sure if we will be out either. My due date is only 15 days away. Its funny I feel like we are basically walking the same path right now. Every post I read of yours it seems like I could have written it. Big hugs!

Same here! The day Carter was born I saw your first post and realized that our babies are only a week apart and were born a day apart. Hopefully both of our little guys get to go home soon!
