Preemies

need healthy thoughts, please

Simon is scheduled for his ear tubes on Monday.  Yesterday he woke up with a slight cough/runny nose.  Today the coughing is worse, so I put him on the nebulizer w/pulmicort.  I'm pretty confident the cold will go away by Monday, but his colds usually turn into ear infections, hence the ear tubes.  If he has an infection, we will have to reschedule and I really don't want to do that.  Please send us some healthy thoughts...

  • Brandon is also getting tubes on Monday. He has a cold now too but so far it hasn't turned into an ear infection. I am also using the nebulizer with pulmicort. When we saw the ENT a few days ago for his pre op appointment he said he can still get tubes with an ear infection. He drains the ears first and then puts the tubes in.

I will call tomorrow to ask about doing it if there is an infection.  Thanks!

  • ditto the pp. Our ENT would do the surgery with an ear infection. As long as his lungs were clear and he didn't have a high fever, they'd go forward.

I'll think good thoughts for you! Robbie kept wheezing and we kept rescheduling. It was hell.

  • Poor lil guy.  I hope it goes away before Monday!

  • Mek-

I'm so sorry. I personally know how frustrating this is. I hope the pp was right and that they can drain the fluid and still do his surgery.

DS had pneumonia and 2 bacterial infections in his lungs (thank you reflux and your nasty aspirations). We had to push his surgery back over a month for him to get well enough to have the surgery. So frustrating when they NEED this surgery to hopefully not be as sick, but can't get it because he's too sick. ::head desk::

I can empathize with you and I really hope that they can go ahead and do his tubes Monday.

  • It sounds like a frustrating chicken and the egg thing.

    *hugs*

    and healthy dust.

  • Tell him that he'll have way more fun at C&E's birthday party if he stays healthy and follows the doctors orders.  Extra hugs for him today.
