If you used a co-sleeper and a have pet who slept with you prior to the babies' arrival, did you kick the pet out during that time, or did the animal behave? I have a cat who sleeps between my knees every night, but I'm worried he'll try to sleep in the co-sleepers (we plan to do two minis) if we don't kick him out. Then I'm worried that will cause him distress and make him act up as pets are likely to do when babies come along. Maybe this is a question for the pets board?
Re: Co-sleepers and pets
I've been meaning to make a post just like this. I'm worried about the cat smothering the babies.
Also, once the babies are old enough to move to their nursery, I will want my bedroom door and their door open so I can hear them better (their nursery will be right across the hall). I don't want my cat being able to go into the nursery at night either, so I'm thinking he will just have to be shut into the den/kitchen part of the house at night. I'll obviously have to move his litter box down there.
we aren't doing a co-sleeper but a pnp with bassinet. our plan is to set it up this weekend, about 3 - 5 weeks before these kids get out, and put a scat mat in it so when the cat jumps in it, and i know she will, she'll get a static electric zap and she'll jump out. my goal is to make her associate the pnp and the babies' cribs with this hing so she'll steer clear once the babies are here.
i bet you can do that with a co-sleeper. we're headed to petco to buy it this weekend.
please don't flame me, i'm not electrocuting my cat. it's the same zap you get from static electricity and i'd rather freak her out and keep her out of my babies' sleeping areas than have her think this is a new spot for her to lay down. she's a giant cat at 14 lbs and will be bigger than both of my kids combined for a while.
I don't think thats mean...like you said its a little zap and your protecting human life from a 14 lb cat... And if the cat decides to sit there and continue to get zapped dumb cat...LOL
thanks, she pretty much rules the roost around here but this is a firm boundary that she cannot cross.
I have 2 cats and a dog. I am planning on just using the cribs. The cats can not get into the cribs because they are too high and away from everything else so they have nothing to jump onto to jump from. I am thinking of getting a pack n play for the living room and plan on putting balloons in it before the babies are in it. I read that can deter them from getting in it.
we'll see.
