anyone ever sold at consignment sales

The other post got me thinking we have a ton, and I mean a ton of girl clothes. With this being our last child I have a bunch that are still in great condition, is it easy to sell at them? What's it like? Do I price the items? Any advice would be great, thanks!

Re: anyone ever sold at consignment sales

  • I have been thinking of doing the TotSwap consignment, but I always wonder if it will be worth it or should I try ebay etc.  Some of what I have is really nice stuff that was worn once or not at all and then other stuff is play stuff that is only a little bit worn.  But I don't really want to keep all these bins of clothes just in case we know someone who wants to borrow them either.  So I feel like even though I may not get much back for them it is better than them sitting here collecting dust.

I have been to the TotSwap to buy and I felt like I got the best deals on jackets and bigger stuff like that.

  • My sister is a member of Fairfax county Mothers of Multiples and they do 2 huge sales each year. I consign my stuff under her at those sales.

It's a project to sort ot all and hang it and tag it, but between selling the old clothes and getting new stuff for my kids at the sales, it basically ends up like renting their clothes. I take the money from what I sell and get their stuff for the next season, and then can usually re-sell it for what I paid..

I think it's worth the effort.

There are a few different pricing strategies. I price my stuff to move - nothing more than $3-$4. Cause I'd rather get a few bucks and not have it come back. Some people ask for more, but run the risk of their stuff not getting purchased...You kind of learn as you go...

And, if you take 100 items to the sale and they all go, $3-$4 adds up quick :) FCMOMs takes a 20 or 30% cut. some other sales take a higher cut...
