~~jcsntms06~~ re: FSH and OB req

My experience at FS was mostly good. DH and I were disappointed in the way he was treated, very much as a visitor and not parent. With the visiting policy limited because of H1N1, I could only have him and 1 other person at a time. They were constantly calling my room to ask how many people I had and if another visitor could come. When I would ask who, several times they said "the baby's father" ( they knew him by sight). We also had several people express surprise that we were married. I was surprised at that. The only other problem was when discussing our son, drs that came to our room addressed me and didn't really acknowledge DH. One time I asked them to wait for DH to return to explain (when Collin first went into the NICU, DH went out to let the waiting visitors know it was going to be a little while he was gone like 3 mins).

Other than that, I had a great experience and would absolutely deliver there again. Most everyone we encountered were friendly and caring in delivery, the OR, mommy and baby, and the NICU. And if for no other reason, I would go back for the ice. OMG I still crave that stuff :0)

I see Dr's Kaplan and Coleus at Box Hill Women's Care. MDMommy recommended the and I LOVE them. Especially Dr Kaplan. She delivered Collin and was amazing. I am not sure if they are considered HR or not, but if you would like the info to check it out I can pass it on. You probably don't remember, but I switched at 30 weeks because I felt like my dr wasn't giving me enough time and wasn't very personal. These Drs were exactly opposite.

  • Oh wow, I'm sorry you had a not so nice experience with the visitors policy. I would of been sick and tired of them calling me for a head count. And the way they were treating your DH, uncalled for.

When I was there in October, they just started to enforce a policy, but mainly that was at the NICU. Only parents and grandparents were allowed to see baby, and only two people back at a time.

They didn't have a strict visitor policy at all. Although parts of me wished they had. I had a lot of family members who wanted to come to the hospital before I had A. And I keep telling them no. I finally had to turn off my phone.

Glad you had a great experience overall though.

I'll write down Dr. Kaplan and check into her later on.

Currently I see Dr. Hessa and Dr. Elgin. DH wasn't completely happy with them. He thought they misdiagnosed me, when it came to the high blood pressure/pre-e. Not that we are TTC or anything, but I like to keep my options open for the future. I like to stick with FSH too. Being that I could possibly have another preemie.

Thanks for sharing your experience with me.

to butt myself into this convo....

This is my first child so I really dont know about the hopsital but...

I see dr. elgin now too, however i started seeing Koukas ( I am pretty sure that is how her name is spelled ) she is so much better than Elgin. Personally, I am treated like an uneducated child by her. I told her I had a heart murmur since I was born and that it has been worked up many times over my life and has always been innocent- she told me that she couldn't hear it so i must have grown out of it. When i saw Koukas and I was wheezing a little bit from Asthma she took a listen to my chest to make sure I was okay. She heard two heart murmurs - which freaked me out because I don't want anything to happen to abby- but i was sent for testing and both of them are innocent. How could Elgin miss TWO of 'em?  I am really against making my appointments with her and Hesse. Saul  is who i see when i can't see Koukas. He's  mellow and answers all of my questions and is direct about it.

Elgin and Hesse just love to tell me how much weight I have gained and how I could have a "big" baby because of this. I was a 10 lb baby, and popped out like a sack of potatoes all buttered up my mom tells me. And I've never been a "thin" kid - the only time I am  is during Lax season because I had to run all the time. ( I've gained 42 lbs total so far  I know it is a lot but i really love food. Im 210 right now, I dont think that is bad... Im okay with it.)

So thats my $0.02 on the matter of Elgin and Hesse.... I wanted to switch however being this close- It isn't worth it to me. I just hope Koukas delivers abby.

You know that Kolkous doesn't delivery right? At least that's what I was told. Although I'm so thankful that I saw Kolkus at my 33 week appointment. She's the one that sent me to the hospital for testing. I ended up delivering the next day.

Hesse delivered Annabelle and I was happy with both her and Elgin at the hospital, but I saw Hesse a few times, and I wasn't to happy about being rushed out of there. Like I told Lisa, I may change practices for future births. I actually may change before my next annual appointment.

I hope everything goes okay. Keep me posted, if you don't mind, once Abby comes. I like to hear your experience.

  • When i asked Kolkous about going into labor and who would deliver she said that is on rotation at the hospital... but i might have taken it the wrong way. I'm going to ask her if she will be able to actually deliver. She's one the main reasons i stayed with the practice.

I will let you know how it goes. It's not to far from now... I hope.

  • Let me know if Kolklas does do rotation? I like to hear if she does do deliveries. Good luck. Only 21 more days.

  • Dr. Weinreb told me that he, Elgin and Hesse deliver and Kulkas is just filling in and helping with appointments until they find someone permanently. That was back in October (I think) so maybe things have changed since then.

  • I am going to ask this thursday at my appointment about her delivering and let you know. I am really hoping she is and I didn't take it the wrong way about her doing rotations.

I have a heart murmur- sometimes it can be heard by a doc, sometimes it can't, also you can grow out of them, mine has definitely gotten less severe/noticeable.  Like you mine has been checked out many times.  My dad is a doc (primary care doc @ FSH actually) and he hasn't listened to my heart in a long time, but when I was in high school I had a crazy physical (application process for a military academy) and their docs couldn't pick it up, but it could be picked up by a doc if they listened to my chest when I was laying down.  Just because one doc heard 2 and the other didn't hear it doesn't mean that the one doc is that much better than the other- heart murmurs can be funky sometimes.

  • I haven't had anyone not hear my heart murmur, but I guess I shouldn't judge her so much on her not hearing it.

But I asked Kolkas if she does do deliveries and she does but doesn't. She is in triage and that if I came in fully dilated that she would be there. I also learned that there is a Dr Matt, and some other lady - and for the life of me recall her name - but she was working there before and fills in from time to time. So now I am a little (maybe more than a little) disappointed about not having the possibility of Kolkas being there and that other people who I never met delivering Abby.

I think you're thinking of Dr. Mattson. She used to be with White Square but left to raise her family. A good friend of mine was at FSQ a few nights ago with very close contractions and Dr. Mattson was the doc who checked her while she was there.
