Dried Eggs - is it safe?

I LOVE Marshmellow Fluff on my toasts.  This morning I was looking at the ingredients and noticed it contains dried egg whites.  Do you think it is still safe?  Or should I stop eating it?

Re: Dried Eggs - is it safe?

  • Ummmm...its either so far dried that its not even close enough to "real eggs" anymore to be a concern, or I am sure its pasteurized. So I am totally sure you're fine. Especially considering alot of women here still eat their cooked eggs runny with yolks...

  • Ewww!  not the fluff, the dried eggs!

I would say you are fine, they wouldn't be able to sell on the shelf without a big warning otherwise.  Like in restaurants for dressing and the raw egg warning.

  • Yes it's safe.  They use the dried eggs to produce the meringue that makes it fluffy.  You'd need to be more concerned if they used fresh egg whites, because they wouldn't be pasteurized like dried eggs are.

  • I hope so. I ate a PB & fluff sandwich every day for lunch when pregnant with DS.  He's about as normal (as a 2.5 year old toddler can be - LOL).
