In recent weeks/months, I have seen 2 cars that have infant seats installed forward facing. I don't think they were using LATCH with a carseat base, just seat belts to secure it. You know, if you are going to bother to spend the $$$ on an infant seat, shouldn't you at least read the instruction manual? Or even just look at the sticker on the side of the thing?! I'm really not one of those strict RF until college kind of people, but come on... an infant seat is ONLY supposed to be installed one way. Sorry, but this just pisses me off.
Re: Vent- infant seat installation
I honestly thought of this EXACTLY. The first time, it was just a car in a parking lot- I never saw the driver. Today, though... it was someone at my office. Actually, she was parked next to daycare but I didn't recognize the driver or the baby so I don't think they go there- probably just dropping something off. If they did use our daycare, I would not hesitate to say something- or even suggest that the director DO something. But since I had not yet had my breakfast, I thought I should probably bite my tongue and reel in the beast. Y'all know I am not nice when I'm hangry.
Holy crap!! Yeah, I would definitely be reporting that one.
I saw a convertible car seat in the front seat of a car at the airport a few weeks back and it wasn't even buckled it at all. Mother sat in the back. It was very strange. I would have said something if they hadn't just jumped in the car and left.
I went and had our car seat inspected at the Cobb County Safety Village a few weekends ago and they installed it wrong - it literally was in my backseat crooked one side was lifting off the seat and it moved about 3 inches which the officer told me was fine and wasn't level at all. I came home and redid my original super tight install. They told me my install was great, but that I needed to tilt the base with the level for a newborn - even though the level on the seat was perfect and then messed it all up.
Agree. When we flew to the IL's in VA we just took the infant seat and put it in their car with the seat belt (there is actual instructions for this in the car seat manual). Not having a base is not against the law or anything.
Yep. We do this, too. It is awesome to just take the SNG and the car seat and be good for a whole trip....one of the reasons I love my car seat!
