Has anyone heard that getting a pedicure can induce labor?
I'm almost 38 weeks and am getting a mani/pedi on Friday -
I was trying to ask Dr. Google and got mixed reviews -
should I have the nail tech - just avoid any massaging of my feet and ankles?
Thanks !
Re: pedicute concerns
This, get one and enjoy it. As cosmetologists we arent trained in all of the pressure points but I think a person would have to be pretty skilled to do it in a way that would start labor. And also if this really worked I think that more people would be getting their ankles poked on when they go past their due dates and you just dont hear about it.
With my first pg, we took a labor massage class, and they showed us where the spot was and how to massage it to try to induce labor. I can't remember exactly where it was off the top of my head, but I do remember that it wasn't that easy to just hit and that it wasn't a normal foot massage/pedi type maneuver. They also said that it usually doesn't work very well unless your body is already ready to go into labor, so while you wouldn't want to intentionally mess around with trying it if you weren't full-term, you should be ok anyway.
Go. Enjoy. You'll be fine.
I have avoided getting one because I was told the same thing by a nurse at the hospital when I was admitted at 31 weeks due to complications.
I've gotten a pedicure every week since I've been pregnant and it's been fine.

This is what I've heard as well. I would hope that if the cosmetologist sees you walking in with 38 week belly that they would steer clear of putting pressure on the pressure points that Annabelle is talking about. I know I would. I just got a pedicure on Saturday and baby is still sittng tight in there.
Thank you all so much !
