Babies: 3 - 6 Months

enlighten me on the 4 month "wakeful"

I kept hearing this term, but decided not to look into it thinking that I'd probably "imagine" that we were experiencing it even if we weren't. Does that make any sense?? Almost like I didn't want to give myself a bias??

But for the past week I'd say, he is a maniac, he won't sleep. Actually he just won't nap, he still sleeps pretty well at night. Now I'm assuming the "wakeful" term would mean exactly that, they're more wakeful?? It's driving me nuts, his routine is all screwy, he'll only catnap for about 10-15 mins at a time but then fusses most of the day. His appetite is also completely whackey, he's dropped from 7-8 oz feedings to 5 oz...

So what the heck is this 4 month wakeful I kept hearing about, anyone care to sum it up for me?? Is this what I'm describing??

Re: enlighten me on the 4 month "wakeful"

  • DD's naps were the only thing that the WF affected, except for one night during that 2 week period when she woke at 1am to feed. There is a really big growth spurt + huge cognitive "leap" that happens right around 4 mos. DD went from eating 6 times a day to eating every 2 hours again, and her naps were only 30-45 min. long. I treated it like a growth spurt, adding feedings, and just tried to keep the routine as consistent as possible. It lasted 2 weeks, then one day she just went back to napping well. GL it doesn't last that long. :)

  • That's good to hear!  I was beginning to wonder if she was going to be stuck in this new routine!  I hope we have the same experience as you.
