What to take for nasal congestion

I called my doctor this morning and they said I could take Tylenol cold.  It has done absolutely nothing for me.

Has anyone been told by their doctor they can take Mucinex?

  • I have not been taking anything... I don't think you are supposed to take mucinex.

  • I'm pretty sure my m/w has told me sudafed is safe... I just deal with it naturally the best I can. Try breathing in steam from a hot pot of water with a towel over your head or a netti pot.

  • My allergist told me I could take the lowest dose of sudafed and my OB also approved it. You can't take mucinex.

  • I didn't feel comfortable taking any meds when I had congestion. I use a saline only nasal spray and it help a bit.

  • I can only breathe out of my mouth right now.  I am going to use my Neti Pot when I get home and pray I can breathe out of my nose for more than just a few minutes.

This. She just told me that this morning so I went right to the store. It seems to have helped at least a little. Feel better!

  • I had a nasty head cold at 5 weeks. I went to my pcp who said that sudafed is ok, but to only take a) regular sudafed (in some states sold behind the pharmacy counter) and b) half doses (regular Rx is 2 pills with each dose; take 1). My pcp also said to take afrin nasal spray twice daily for two days only. I used a netti pot as recommended here (for me, it didn't do much).
