I'm going to suck it up and try eliminating dairy from my diet to see if it helps my spitty, gassy, now rashy boy.
Help! I love my milk, cheese, and ice cream, and they make up a decent bit of my protein, since we don't eat tons of meat. Besides the obvious of not having milk with my cereal, and not adding cheese to my dishes, where do I start? Any specific foods I should look out for that I wouldn't guess have dairy in them? Also, please share your tips for eating out dairy-free. TIA!
Re: going dairy free- help?!
We just went dairy and gluten freen and it hasn't been as bad as I imagined. Dairy or Casein is in SO many different things so read all lables. It is in breads, bagles, snack foods, etc. I have found that soy ice cream is very good as is coconut milk yogurt (SO Delicious is a great brand but is pricey). We have seen a marked improvement in DS. I know people who have cut only obvious dairy (milk, ice cream, cheese) out of their diet and seen good results.

I went dairy free a couple of years ago. IMO, the key is substitutes. There are a ton of dairy free options, but you should still read labels carefully to make sure there isn't some sort of dairy component in there.
I love hemp milk instead of cow's milk. I believe it has some protein content, is fortified, and contains omega-3s naturally. There are a variety of soy and rice cheeses, none of which I love, but I can definitely eat them. I have taken a liking to Rice Dream ice cream, and some amazing sorbets that I found at my local health food store.
For protein, there's always nuts and beans. And quinoa.
As for eating out, you can always ask for things without cheese, look for dishes with non-cream-based sauces, etc. I haven't had a huge problem. My brother and SIL are vegan, and they are able to eat out often.
Good luck.
