Glucose Test..Stupid Question

Do I have to fast before?

Re: Glucose Test..Stupid Question

  • um, no. Some women think it will help make their test come back negative, but seriously, if you have the problem don't you want to know about it so it can be treated? Eat what you normally would if you want accurate results. If you want to try to cheat, than fast.

  • Usually your dr will tell you ahead of time.. For mine I couldnt have anyhting past midnight to but I heard some can eat breakfast and test..I guess if theres enough time in between? I'd call and ask if you have to take it and the dr didnt tell you otherwise.
  • No.  Fasting will make your number lower, but if you're GD/borderline GD you really want to be treated correctly.

With my last pregnancy I was almost below the range of normal, and my inability to gain weight this time makes me wonder.  The nurse asked if I had been fasting (I hadn't).

  • I was told by my Dr. to fast 2 hours prior to the test. Not really sure why 2 hours but that's what she said.
  • My doctor told me not to eat or drink anything (not even water) for two hours beforehand...hmm.

  • It says on my instructions to fast for 2 hours before drinking the glucola.

  • I also meant to add, the red drink is yummy. I asked the tech for another one, seriously.
  • You may want to ask your doctor. MIne doesn't want me to eat after midnight.

  • I was told to fast for three hours before
