that I ate a Tums that I found in the bottom of my purse even though DH just went to the store to get me more. I seriously couldn't wait.

  • Lots of water, walking around and munching cucumbers work for me now.

  • Omg seriously, heartburn might kill me tonight.

Okay, way over dramatic, but I'm gonna lose it if I don't find some relief!!

  • Ohhh cucumbers, off to cut one up now.  I can't take this anymore... I had it from 26 weeeks on last time, and never enjoyed eating for those 14 weeks.  Now it started at 21, it's so not fair!!!!
  • This will sound crazy, but pineapple naturally helps with heartburn.  It would seem like it would burn worse, but it helps.  That and pepcid :)

Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d, via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress.  Seizures, IVH grade 2, brain injury, kidney and liver damage.  Complete blood clot in the artery in his right arm.  27 days in the NICU.  Now discharged from all specialists, excepts his kidney doctor, who will monitor him indefinitely.  My tough little cookie.

  • I had heartburn/reflux pre-pregnancy... and then NOTHING for the first like, 19 weeks. And then BAM, worse than ever. I never thought I would be wishing for my normal heartburn.

  • I finally asked for a prescription of Nexium from my doctor. I went from hardly being able to eat or sleep because of a burning esophagus to feeling like a million dollars!

I would highly recommend it. Prilosec OTC is a weaker version of the same active drug.  I hope you feel better! Oh by the way, drinking milk helped me a little too before the drugs kicked in...

I don't even have heartburn right now ... but I totally want a bowl of cucumbers to munch on after reading this...

I have no idea how or why they work. But I keep about 4 or 5 in the fridge now. I'll cut one up and munch the whole thing slowly.

To be honest with you I've made myself want some. I literally do keep 4 or 5 in the fridge now so I'm about to cut on up :D

  • So, I grew up taking this mexican antacid called "Sal de Uvas-picot" (literally meaning salt of grapes, that I recently found out is actually sold at Walmart!) and my family swears by it for heartburn.  I thought it was only sold at tiny little mexican grocery stores.

It comes in little packets and each serving size envelope contains 2.485 grams of Sodium Bicarbonate, .2165 grams of Tartaric Acid (Sal de Uvas) and 1.9485 grams of Citric Acid.

I have only taken it a few times, since my Dr. told me it seemed ok to take but to avoid sodium and not take much of it.  (it seems to be just like alka-seltzer but without the aspirin).

Anyway I grew up with it and I think it works great, so I just wanted to share.  Of course, make sure you ask your doctor to see what their opinion is about it.

  • My doctor has me taking Prevacid. It just became available over the counter but if your doctor writes you for the generic, its cheaper. I'd recommend talking to your doctor about the heartburn.

If its really bad and you've tried the typical things like tums, pepcid, etc. they will likely write you for a prescription. No reason to be miserable! :(

  • Zantac 150 and a cold glass of milk always does the trick for me
  • One of the girls on the July board said she took a teaspoon of vinegar and that it worked wonders for her. Personally it sounds like it would just make the heartburn worse, but she swore by it.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I was very happy that my prepregnancy heartburn had gone away, but now it's back. It seems as though I only get it in the middle of the night. This sucks because it makes me so tired in the morning.

  • Up all night last night with acid reflux... eww!  I too had Acid reflux before getting pregnant and unfortunately I have had acid issues this WHOLE pregnancy.  I'm on a perscribed drug for it but I also have to use Tums for relief.  I will definately try cucumbers... I love them!!!
  • I was up at 2am drinking chocolate milk my heartburn was so bad.

This.  Tums are worthless when it comes to relieving heartburn, at least for me anyway.
