We're having a hard time getting DS#1 all of the nutrients he needs. He isn't a horrible eater by toddlers w/autism standards, but his diet is limited. He mainly eats peanut butter or grilled cheese sandwiches, fruit (fairly wide variety), cereal (4-5 types), sometimes chicken nuggets or fish sticks, yogurt, and cheese slices. He only drinks water (no milk or juice). We had some general bloodwork done last week and his vitamin D was a little low but everything else was fairly normal but on the lower end of normal.
We would all feel better if we could get a vitamin in him. He won't eat gummy candy, so those are out. I've tried a flintstones type vitamin twice now and no go. I also tried grinding it up and mixing it in a bowl of yogurt and that was slightly more successful but he seemed suspicious so I don't know how long that's going to last. I thought of the drops, but the flavor of the ones I got was quite strong so I couldn't come up with anything to mix it with.
I am giving him Viactiv chocolate chews (tastes like a Tootsie Roll) since the blood work and that is going well, if anyone else is having similar problems and needs a calcium/Vitamin D&K supplement. Any other ideas?
Re: Vitamin suggestions
He didn't see me mix it up, but we usually do yogurt in a tube and it had a slightly different color/flavor with the vitamin mixed in.
I'll give the gumballs a try. Unfortunately he's not much of a sensory seeker and has never had gum before. I think the issue has more to do with a new thing than anything else.
