DD is going through the 4 month wakeful which has made bed time and naps hell.... I bought a small blanket today, and its currently in her bassinet, but near her waist. She put her hand on it.
It doesn't really make sense to choose that for a child.
At some point your baby will show a preference and a desire to have a specific blanket/toy around...usually not one that you would choose for them, from what I've seen. At that point, when your child becomes attached to it, you can consider letting them sleep with something like that.
I do. He sleeps better. I was weary at first, but now I am fine with it. Sometimes he sleeps with the Aden and Anais Muslin Wrap Blanket, which is super thin and he could completely breathe through it, or I also have the Breathable Baby Blanket that I give him when it is super cold outside. Either way, he has a blanket & his Seahorse in his crib every night.
DS has laid claim to one of my white Old Navy undershirts and he sleeps with that. I sewed the straps down in a couple of places so he can still grab them but they can't go over his head. He likes to suck on it while he falls asleep. (For the record, it has been washed multiple times since I last wore it)

the idea is that you choose one for them and let them touch it etc while nursing so they can feel the same comfort when not being fed. it's just a way to help comfort your child while they are this young.

that's a sweet idea. I heard someone suggest leaving a breast pad or something like that close to your baby so they can still smell you...I guess it's a similar concept, just much cuter than pulling a pad out of your bra for LO lol.
He has a very small minky blanket with silky fabric on the other side that he snuggles against his face the moment I give it to him in his crib. It's big enough he can't get it all in his mouth, but small enough that it only really covers his chest. He also sleeps with his seahorse.
Re: Do you let LO sleep with a lovey?
No but she has no interest in a lovey but she sleeps with her seahorse.
