We don't plan to wean him from his formula. If it works, I'm not messing with it.
Why do you want to wean him?
To get his body used to breaking down normal formula. I figure he will have to learn at some point. Plus his doctor at his 4 mo checkup said now is the usual time most babies switch. It's not a have-to thing though.
I know it's not quite the same, but my DD1 was on Sensitive formula from 9-12 months (after I stopped BF). When we switched to milk, she wasn't tolerating it so we had to switch back to the sensitive formula and wean her slowly.
We did 1 oz at a time, per bottle, per our pedi's recommendation. So a 6 oz bottle was 5oz sensitive formula, 1 oz milk. Every week (or maybe 5-6 days) we upped the ounces of milk per bottle. It was a slow process but that's what our pedi said to do and it worked great! Once we got to 100% milk, DD did great!
At some point you'll have to do it, whether it's with regular milk or formula. I think most babies will outgrow this type of sensitivity by 12 months so you can wait until then, or try now and see how he does if that's what your pedi suggests. GL
CP 3/07 BFP 5/07 - Kylie born 2/08. BPF 2/09 - Alexandra born 10/09. TTC since 8/13 - diagnosed difficulty conceiving due to LP defect. Took vitamin B and Vitex Berry to help lengthen. BFP 2/14 - Missed M/C found at 8.5 weeks. D&C at 9w2d. Partial Molar Pregnancy. BFP 11/14
I have to say I agree with you....I am going to try to wean DD off of Alimentum back to Similac after I see the doctor at her 6 month appointment. THe closer they get to milk the easier the transition on the tummy.
Just add in the new formula ounce by ounce once a day, and add an additonal ounce the next day.
You could probably even do it quicker than that, but to be safe it's the way I'd go.
