Baby Names

Dylan/Dillon

Just noticed in one of the posts a bit down the page that her son is named Dillon.

That's really cute :) I hadn't heard that name in a long time!! I like it :)

Re: Dylan/Dillon

  • I have a Dylan and sometimes wish that we had spelled it the traditional way of Dillon

  • I like Dylan for spelling, but yes, it's a nice name.
  • My son is Dillon.

Reason behind the spelling since everyone asks (no I don't worship Matt Dillon):

Dillon = meaning is Lion like, Loyal.

Dylan = lover of the sea.

Although some books give the same meaning for both spellings, one book I had gave the name two different meanings and two different origins. I went with the other book - but who knows what is right =)

    Anyway...

We were looking for a name that represented his father, who passed away right after we were pregnant. We found out he was a boy the day after his funeral. We thought it was cool that Richard is strongly represented by the Lion (Richard the Lion, Richard the lionheard etc) so went with the Dillon spelling.

Also, both of us get sea sick so lover of the sea didn't fit LOL

  • I like either, but I think the Dillon spelling is really cool.

krissyh21 - did Dillon's father pass or did you DH's father pass?  Either way I'm sorry your son won't be able to meet him.

  • I think I prefer Dylan. Dillon looks too much like dill to me which makes me think of dill pickles. But I am pregnant so I could be biased.

  • I really like the name too! I prefer the Dillon spelling for some reason, though I can't put into words why -I guess it just looks more appealing to my eyes!

  • My nephew's name is Dillon. I'd never seen the spelling before and told my sis when she was pg with him that if she spelled it that way i may have to call him Dill Pickle. She thought it was cute and now we both call him that (sometimes) it has kind of stuck and it's cute. Its funny when i shorten it and just call him "pickle" and he turns around just like i used his real name Smile

  • I like the name.  However, I am not crazy about spelling it Dylan.
