Babies: 9 - 12 Months

for those of you with lo's who had sleep problems... when did they finally start sleeping

My son wakes up anywhere from every 30mins to 3hrs every night... usually its every 1 or 2hrs. ?He also is a horrible napper. ?I am starting to wonder if I will ever sleep again!

  • DS is not a sleeper either...def. no STTN and up several times a night. How do you get him back to sleep after all these wakeup and at bedtime? We recently (last night)started doing some sleep training and I am waiting to see if it helps!

  • ... when we let her CIO around 7 months.  It was the best (and hardest) thing we could have done for her.  She's so much happier during the day... and so is Mommy now that we all get a good night's sleep.  She went from waking every hour to two hours to STTN 10 hours right off the bat.

  • I'm a big advocate of sleep training.  There are gentle ways to do it.  It's totally worth it.

  • Still waiting, but sleeping a little bit more.

Finn started sleeping better about two weeks ago. He used to only nap in his swing (thats bad) and I had to get him used to napping in his crib. Since then, he has been fairly good, slept more than 30 minutes!

As for night, he still gets up 2-3 times a night, but is doing much better going back to sleep.

Of course this could all change tomorrow.

  • good to know im not alone! ?My son is 6 months. ?He goes to bed at 6pm, we have a routine (bath, massage, pj's, book, nurse, bed). ?He goes down awake and usually goes to be pretty quickly. ?When he wakes up... I try and give him some time to go back to sleep (usually 5mins) but depending on his cry I will go in pick him up and lay next to him in my bed or if needed nurse him... if he doesnt go back to sleep right away I put him back in the pack and play and he will cry for maybe a min and go back to sleep. ?However... when it get pretty late I just usually leave him in bed with us after feeding him. ?we have tried lots of different techniques with him...I've tried letting him cry before. ?Its a nightmare... he just gets so worked up that he can't go back to sleep... i'm glad he can put himself to sleep... just wish he would stay asleep. ?I would love it if he would take real naps during the day too!?
  • for those of you who did cio.... how long did you let them cry?
  • DS went from a terrible sleeper, waking 3-4 times a night, to being a great sleeper (11 hours night after night) around 8 months, shortly after I weaned.  I don't know if it was weaning, his getting more solids, or my being more consistent in leaving him in the crib when he would wake (giving him the chance to go back to sleep), or--probably--a combo of all three.  Around 6.5-7 months, I tried CIO but I couldn't do it.   It just eventually all fell together and he is now a beautiful sleeper.
