Anyone been induced w/foley cath?

I go in on Thursday afternoon to get a foley cath. put in and then Friday morning go to the hospital for my induction. I was induced with DD but didn't have the cath. just went in broke water hooked up the pitocin. My OB said that doing it this way should speed the process up a bit faster then the last time around. Anyone else ever been induced like this how was your experience?

  • You might want to ask 0-3 or even 3-6. They've had the induction experiences. I'm interested in responses, too. My doc mentioned this might be a possible induction method for me as I'm opposed to using drugs for inductions.

  • I did with my first kiddo and it was a really positive experience. ?I went in the morning of and had the foley placed above my cervix. ?It acts as a more natural dilation process as opposed to a Cervadil. ?Once you've dilated to 3-4 cm, the foley bulb comes out. ?It only took a couple of hours for me to dilate enough, the pitocin was started and my little guy was born less than 10 hours later. ?

    Good luck to you!!?
  • I had the foley cath....it didn't start my induction but was used during to manually dilate my cervix and it did help me progress! I was at 2-3cm and it got me from 4-5cm within a few hours. For me, that's good! lol

    Good luck!

  • For me it was not a great experience but I think that was more about the residents that we on call at the time. It was used with Pit to start my induction, I had it in for probably about 17 hrs and I kept asking to be checked because it was feeling very uncomfortable. They kept trying to lightly pull it out and it wouldn't budge so they said I wasn't dilating. Finally at 3 pm (17 hrs later) I begged to see a doctor. She checked me and said she was going to just take it out and we would try something new. We she pulled it out and it hurt when she did. She then checked me and I was 6 cm. I think when the filled it, that it was over filled. I ended up having my baby at 7:42 pm. Induction was great other than the cath. I don't think I would do it again but again now that I know more and have read other people experience I think I would have begged for a doctor a lot sooner than I did. Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you.
