Any ideas on how to remove cat urine from carseat?

Our cat got trapped in the babies room last night and thought the carseat would work as a literbox.  Any idea how to get the smell out, I know I can take the cover off and wash it, the straps are what I am not sure about.

Any help/tips would be wonderful.  Thanks,

  • Years ago one of my cats peed on my expensive mattress and it *reeked* to the point I couldn't even sleep in the room.  I saturated it with PureAyre natural cleaner and put a warm, damp cloth over it for a few hours (to incubate the enzymes in the cleaner) and it worked so well.  PureAyre doesn't do jack for getting rid of stains, but it's awesome for smell and I also like to pour a few ounces into the wash cycle with pet things to get them fresher as well.  We never had a problem with any of the other cats repeat peeing on it too, so it works to eliminate smell not only for us but them too- just as important.  If you can't find PureAyre (commonly available at mostly independent/natural pet supply stores) you could also try UrineOff feline or possibly Simple Solution feline (both are also completely natural.)  Nature's Miracle and Petastic brands aren't worth it, IMHO, so I'd definitely avoid those.  Good luck!

  • All I know is you cannot put the straps in the washing machine as it damages the fibers and makes them less safe.   Not sure what to use to wash them...maybe soak them in something?

  • Nature's Miracle for cats.  Soak up what you can and rinse it (wet rag on one side and dry on the other, if it's too hard to rinse), then saturate with the spray.  Should be a-ok when it's dry.

Yup.  This.  That stuff really does work miracles.

  • Thank you, I will try those things and let you know.
  • I've used a lot of those urine smell cleaners (we foster) and found that white vinegar is the best. The carseat may smell vinegary for awhile but it goes away. I liked some of the other cleaners but white vinegar is by far the best.
