Not sure about these Mum Mums

So last week we tried Mum Mums for the first time.  Although my DS loves the taste, I'm worried he's going to choke on them.  He was able to bit a huge piece off right away.  I had to fish some out of his mouth because he had so much in there he didn't know what to do.  So now I just break them up into small Puffs size pieces for him.  I thought they'd be a lot harder and they could naw and suck on them...not the case.

Do you just let you LO hold and eat the whole thing or break off pieces for them?

Re: Not sure about these Mum Mums

  • I used to offer them in halves.  They melt soo fast that I was never overly concerned. Now he inhales them whole.

  • we let her hold it and eat it. She loves it. They dissolve pretty quickly.
  • I'm not buying Mum Mums anymore.  I don't like them...and DS makes a mess with them!  But yeah...he would also break off big pieces and just end up spitting it out.

  • They dissolve super quick. I break them in half just so they don't eat them so fast.
  • He's gagged a few times on them (as well other finger foods), but all I had to do was sweep it out of his mouth and he was fine.  I guess I just assume it's going to happen because it's a learning process?
  • Not to say that they he shouldn't be supervised but they do dissolve very quickly.
  • We tried them on a suggestion by a friend....my DS bit it in half right away. They do seem to disolve quick, but I was too afraid of him choking. We're going to stick to teething biscuits for a while!

  • DS eats them whole.  He occasionally gags, but then it melts and he shovels more in.
  • They hold the whole thing takes bite and have never choked/gagged etc.

  • They disolve really quickly. I watch her closely and the first time or two she did take a big chunk but now she has the hang of it. She gets them while in the highchair so i can do dishes or make a phone call, ect. I'm always supervising.

See now I'm afraid of the teething biscuits.  DD is a pro with Mum Mums and will take the whole thing and eat it no problem...and I don't worry b/c they dissolve so fast but the biscuits don't and she took a big bite (after sucking on it a bit).  I had to take it from her and she was NOT happy about that.

  • The first time DS had one he did the same thing - broke off a huge chunk. Now he does really well with them, other than ending up wearing 1/4 of it.
