Pumpers...weird TMI question?

I've noticed sometimes I get more out for my first pumping session.  I pretty much eat/drink the exact same thing for breakfast every morning.

The only thing I realized today is there are certain days where I get really busy at work and don't make it to the bathroom to pee all morning.  I'm wondering now if that has anything to do with it?

I know...strange....but my supply is tanking and I'll do anything I can to get the most out.  Even hold it if I need to!!  :)

    Yep.  Exactly.

  • IDK-the pee thing doesn't seem like it would biologically have any impact on your supply, but if you're worried about a tanking supply try a power pump an hour a day (10 minutes of pumping, then a 5 minute break: repeat for an hour).  Some women also say they respond better to pumping 10 minutes every hour.
  • I'm not so sure on the peeing/supply correlation, but I find I get more in my first pump mostly because I think my supply goes when DD eats from me directly and since pumping isn't as effective as your child it goes down come the second pump of the day - if that makes sense.

ha. i don't know about op, but that would never work in my world. i have trouble with work getting me to have 2 15-minute pump breaks. imagine if i asked for an hour!

  • Sounds like you may not be drinking enough water. Try upping your water intake and see if that helps.
  • I don't know about the whole peeing thing. That's interesting. I find that if I don't keep up with drinking a lot of water my supply is low. Also, oatmeal and flax are two things I swear by. They have increased my pumping output by 2 oz.

I don't nurse, so I'd do it at night if I couldn't do it at work.  Aren't you entitled to a one hour break if you work 8 hours?  Most states are.

  • The only things that I have noticed affecting my pumping is AF and hydration.

The more water I drink the more successful my pumping and everytime I get AF my supply drops by about 2 ozs for about 3 days.

The only thing that has helped my supply other than hydration is more frequent pumping.

OMG how come I have never heard of "power pumping"! I have struggled with low supply for 8 months now and thought I had tried everything! Im exctied to try this!

Also, my supply is ALWAYS higher in the AM, so maybe its just a coiencendence that you happen to pump more on the days you forget to pee?? But I cant say for sure Huh?

I think that only applies if you are paid by the hour?  I'm lucky I get 1-2 15 min sessions in a day.  It's so busy right now....I guess that's why I can barely find time to pee  Big Smile

I do need to up my water intake.  I'm horrible at that.  I just hate water!!
