My son has cradle cap. My mom told me to put some baby oil on his head & then comb through his hair with a comb.. Some of the flakey stuff came off last night but now this morning there's ozzy stuff on some parts of his head. I feel so bad for even messing with it, but I thought it was ok to do, plus he wasn't crying or moving so i figured it didn't hurt him. Any suggestions on how to make his little scalp better? The little bit of ozzying that he had freaked me out, TIA
Re: cradle cap ..help!
Ozzying?
Just kidding.
But seriously - I've used Aquaphor for the past few nights on Abby's cradle cap with a washcloth and it seems to be helping.

How did you use the cream? Just put it on their head after bath? I bought some but haven't tried it yet.
Our pedi has us using Selsun Blue on LO. His cradle cap is AWFUL and we've been battling it for 2 months. I think the oozing is part of the cradle cap- probably not from anything you've done.
If his scalp is raw from the comb and oozing, I'd just leave it be until it heals. Maybe put some neosporene or something on it (but I'd probably just leave it).
My DS had pretty bad cradle cap that was made even more difficult because of all his hair. We were able to get rid of it by putting olive oil on his head daily for about a week. We'd massage it in and let it sit for an hour or so (with a little cap on to keep it from making a mess) and then brush his scalp with a soft comb in circles and then wash it out with baby shampoo. Twice per week we'd use regular dandruff shampoo (per the pediatrician). It was gone after about 2 weeks. We haven't had any problems since it went away.
I would comb it every night and put oil on it (my doctor actually recommended olive oil). But it didn't go away until I started using California Baby Tea Tree & Lavender shampoo. After I started using that every other day it cleared up in a few days.
DS's pedi told me to call her if there were any really big flakes or it started to ooze. It never got to that point so I don't know what she would have recommended.
Good luck! The shampoo is expensive but it works wonders for the scalp and skin!
Where can I purchase this?
Target or any other common stores like Rite Aid, Wallgreens?
It's pricey but lasts forever. I'm still using the same bottle I've had since DS was born, but Mustela foam shampoo. 2 friends have used it on their kids for cradle cap and it was gone within a few days of use.
