Postpartum Depression

If you think you have PPD or need help...

...you probably do.

I had the baby blues for a few weeks when Jacob was born.  I got scared and called my OB.

Months later after I had quit therapy and quit meds (on my own for both), I was at the bottom of the barrel.  I was sad, angry, disappointed and disenchanted with motherhood.  With myself.  With my husband.  And even with my baby.

I sought out help again and I'm doing MUCH MUCH better.

What I'm trying to say is that PPD and other depression and anxiety can appear at many different points, in many different forms.  There is no formula.

But if you're posting or even lurking on this board to see if you need to get help, then I think you do.  I find it more courageous to seek out the help you need to make yourself a better wife, mother and person, than to wonder if you have a problem and choose not to do anything about it.

Talking to your your Nest friends is helpful to know that you're not alone, but I hope that talking to your doctor will bring you the relief you need to make you feel like a better mom.

  • Wise words from Allison.

All I will add is that with PPD/PPA, you won't always feel the way that you do now.  You will feel better faster if you get help.  You will like your child,  your spouse, yourself and your life much more when you feel good.

One of the best days for me was when I woke up looking forward to seeing my son instead of waking up in tears, dreading the long day looming ahead of me.  I am not a morning person and I love seeing my LO's face first thing in the morning.

  • Thank you. That is exactly what I was doing, trying to figure out if I had PPD or not. I do want to be a better mom so I am calling my OB in the morning.

    Thanks again
