Success after IF

Those who have done a FET - please come in

My RE is pushing for me to do a FET now - is it normal to do a FET right after the failed IVF or miscarriage??

Is there some medical reason behind this - like the success rates are higher right after a failed IVF???

When you did your FET did you wait a few months or do it right after your IVF cycle??

Re: Those who have done a FET - please come in

  • I never did a FET, I just wanted to pop in and wish you luck. And as far as when you do it, if you are not ready to go on, don't feel pressured from your RE. Wait until your ready.

    ((hugs))

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • I've only done one FET but that's when we were trying for #2 - we had only 1 frozen embie and just wanted to give that one a shot before starting w/a fresh cycle (plus it's less invasive).  GL to you!!
  • I did not do IVF/FET and I can't remember the exact reasoning but my RE did want to try right away after my two m/c and d&c's and I am thinking it was something to do with everything being cleaned out really good and implantation had a better chance at happening.  I could be wrong about that reason though, but she definitely did want me to try right after my d&c.

    Good luck!!

  • after my 1st IVF was a BFN i did an FET a month later (after 1 cycle)- then another one after that failed- i had an ectopic & then 2 months later did another fresh IVF

so yes- it's normal to do an FET within 1-2 months after.

  • I'm not up on the latest research but I don't think there's any scientific reason to do one so quickly. My RE encouraged me to take some time to rest my body and soul, which I did. Of course, in my case I had a cancelled transfer due to OHSS, so I had no choice but to take some time to let my body return to normal, but I had my retrieval in December and transferred the next May.

Good luck! You know we are all pulling for you!

  • I am not sure about the first question.  I did all of my treatments back to back starting in June 09. Fresh IVF, FET and another Fresh IVF. MY RE wasn't concered about waiting and frankly I didn't want to at the time. I was so in the "zone" if you want to call it that, for me it didn't really make a tone of sense. I would have probably taken a break though if this cycle didn't work.

As stated before a FET is soo much easier on your body. It's less meds and less monitoring, just over all an easier process.  With that being said,  think you need to to do what you think is best for you and your DH.  I wouldn't let your RE or anyone else push you into doing something your not comfortable with.

  • We had a failed IVF in May and did our FET in August. RE didn't try to persuade us to move quickly.

  • I wasn't encouraged to jump into FET after my IVF ended in a m/c. I waited about 3 months after my D&C to start meds for FET. Then I waited another 4 months for FET #2.

It's all personal preference and I would just start when you feel ready.  Good luck!

  • I have to wait 1 cycle post my chem. preg. to let my body "rest." So really it ends up  being 2 months + by the time of FET.

  • I think my RE would have done a FET right away after our failed fresh cycle, but his office was moving so they closed down for a month or so.  I did my FET almost 3 months after doing the fresh cycle.  It seems for FETs they can control your body with the meds, so it doesn't seem like it matters much when you do them.

Did you ask your RE why he's in a hurry?

PCOS, lupus anticoagulant, MTHFR (A1298C, one copy) 2 IUIs & 1 IVF = BFN FET#1 = It's a girl! Born 7.1.10 FET#2 = c/p FET#3 = Twin girls! Born on 3.16.12 at 33w2d due to severe pre-E. After 4 weeks in the NICU they are home! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

  • I did a FET as soon as I could after my m/c. I ended up needing two surgeries first so I had to wait a while (I think 6weeks) after the last surgery before I could start the cycle. I've heard that some women respond better to FET because your body is in a more natural state. It's also a much easier cycle than a fresh IVF.

    Good luck!!!
