Re: how did you attach ribbon to the back of wooden name letters?

  • I asked on BOTB last week.

    They mentioned stapling.

  • Hot glue it worked just fine.

  • I used to make and sell wooden letters for my sorority, and as I mentioned, I go a bit crazy at Michael's in the wood department...hehe. I always use hot glue. I'll put a zig zag layer of hot glue, then the ribbon, and then more hot glue on top of it. I probably use a bit more than I should, but I never have a problem with things spontaneously falling off the wall! I've used sheer ribbon and also normal satin faced. I think the sheer tends to work a bit better because the glue sort of soaks through it, but the satin faced does great too. GL and I want to see pics of the letters when you're done!

I'd think that possibly stapling would a) be hard to do, and b) depending on the ribbon, I could see it coming apart from the weight and tearing.

  • I would think hot glue or staples would work just fine.  Just be careful with a staple gun, those might be too "deep" and come out the front.

ETA:  We didn't attach ribbon, but my husband used either saw tooth hangers or strap hangers on the backs of the letters so they would hang from a nail.  They have both at any hardware store.

  • I would staple gun it.

ETA: They make staples that are shallow so that it doesn't go too deep.  But a hot glue gun would probably work too....

  • Staple gun

  • I used hot glue. They've held up perfectly, 5 years and counting.

  • The only reason that I would not use hot glue is due to temp shifts and changing humidity the glue could release potentially and fall on baby.  I would use shallow staples or the zigzag hangers.
  • I would not use hot glue if that was what was supporting the letter on the wall.  Sometimes those letters also have hanging hardware and the ribbon is just hung for show.  Stapling sounds like a good idea that someone mentioned.  You wouldn't want it to fall off the wallWink

  • I have used a staple gun in the past.  I will use it again on the letters I am making for my LO.  Hot glue will work temporarily, but for endurance, I highly recommend a staple gun.
