And... kudos to Fisher Price customer service

I have a FP toy xylophone from when I was a kid.  So, 30 + years old.  It plays a major scale, as in "do re mi fa sol la ti do."  It's wooden, and splintered, so I don't want to give it to my baby.

I bought a "classic" FP xylophone (plastic) for my daughters and it is in no way a scale, it's just random notes.  I called to see if it is intended to have the proper musical notes, and while I got sort of a wishy washy answer, they did offer to send me a voucher for (almost) the price of the xylophone.  So, I get $13 back on a $15 item that I had expected to vaguely resemble a musical scale.

I realize the thing is a toy, and not meant to be a concert instrument, but my expectation was there because I have a 30+ year old one that is in tune.  I'm glad they agreed.

  • That's cool! Well, the refund, anyway...

As a music teacher, I am finding that so many baby musical toys are modeled after real instruments, but aren't pitched correctly. Drives me CRAZY. Why don't they just have them play the right notes???

  • I would have thought it would be in tune also!  How strange that it's not.
  • Yay for the refund! We got a bum jumperoo and had a really good experience with FP customer service as well.
    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

Totally, I'm a former music teacher. .  And I know that makes me kind of picky, so I try to remind myself that these things are toys, not high quality music instruments.... but still... I wanted this to be like my old one.

And PS, as a former music teacher I think the FP toys that play music are the least offensive to my ears.  As far as the songs, and the "voices" they use, not too bad.  There are other brands that I don't touch because the music is so tinny and annoying.

  • I agree!!! My in-laws bought us the Leap Frog musical learning table, and while it's adorable and plays some nice music, the singing voice makes me want to scream. She does a little scat thing "beep bop skoodly bop" that my husband and I mock all day long.
